In a new statement, the TSA placed blame on passengers, claiming that individuals are at fault for showing up to checkpoints unprepared. “Individuals who come to the TSA checkpoint unprepared for a trip can have a negative impact on the time it takes to complete the screening process,” the agency said in a press release, which also included travel tips to help cut down on delays. The release also blamed the uptick in wait times on shrinking staff and a rise in travelers. Chicago’s O’Hare Airport, for instance, has seen an 8 percent rise in travelers since the start of

Perhaps, but there are signs everywhere. Everyone forgets at some point lost a container of jam once. But, each person one after another redirects employees and then the line backs up. So, even I knew- everyone has done it.

And in Frankfurt, I don’t think anyone would dare complain like that there. Their security is very strict. Florence, Italy, they were striking once when I was there. Paris had me completely confused. Oh Bahamas - they use the front of their hands straight in down the entire body. No explanations, apologies or hesitation. To me, my 12 year old son, and husband. I never hear anyone calling the Bahama security perverts which was more much more invasive.

"...shrinking staff and a rise in travelers."

Maybe less time fondling and groping the pax would help.

LOL! By removing all clothes, the passenger will be able to streak through the screening!

I just flew back to SF from Long Beach. My ticket declared TSA Pre-Check. Normally, I should just breeze through. But no, the TSA at Long Beach Airport is totally brain dead, and put me through multiple checks. Through the scanner, then a body check. As the TSA guy is groping my junk, he asks if it's my wallet. Yeah, right, I always put my wallet in my underwear. "Nope, my wallet's in my jacket on the conveyer." Idiots. The long lines there are totally due to idiot TSA workers, as I and other passengers were prepared and did our part (shoes and belts off, hands over our heads like victims being robbed of our dignity).

End the TSA, fire them all.

The TSA took MY MOTHER, 75 years old and in a wheel chair to a “Special” room where they searched her when she was flying home to Florida from here in Denver. It took so long she nearly missed her flight I know of no grandmothers that flew planes into buildings. But TSA does not profile islamists. Right after 9/11 they seated 3 clearly middle easterners in the exit row right behind me. I have carried knives on airlines for years before 9/11 and that does not make me a terrorist. But you, sir I think you are a moron.

I am not a sir. I may look like a sir from the hardcore chemo used prior to my transplant. I’ve done enough traveling to know that people go to ‘the room’ when they want a private screening. The ME people get screened too. Everyone gets screened should everyone over a certain age not get screened? What would be your suggestion for anyone over a certain age?
I’d like to hear your protocol.

As a very frequent traveller part of this is correct.

There is blog after blog telling people how to “save money” while flying. These people usually don’t fly so forget all the parts that say 1 carryon bag. Instead, they will bring 5 or 10 grocery bags filled with snacks, candy, and water. Then, they will hold up the entire line because they never realized that the belt and shoes need to come off. AND all those bottles of water and hand cleaner get tossed out.

That being said. The TSA is pretty bad. Especially in the larger airports. You will see groups of them sitting around laughing and talking while nothing is moving in the line. There are many surely jerks and none of them care how long it takes or if you miss the flight. Honolulu is terrible. The big airports, Houston, Atlanta, DFW are all filled with “officers” that are terrible at everything. If TSA duties were privatized you can bet it would clean up real fast. Make them accountable. While air carriers aren’t known for their customer service no air carrier is going to tolerate treating customers this bad entering the airport. They wait until you’re on the plane.

From what I have seen, giving Indian nationals a line of their own would speed things up for the rest of us considerably. :)

Yeah, um, you know all those TSA regulations went in to effect, like last week. For some reason, we haven’t had these issues in the past fourteen years. Why now?

What should we do about the TSA?

For starters, airports should invoke the opt out option and hire private security screeners.

Another option is to use small regional airports, even if it means poorer connection times and a four hour longer drive to your final destination. We've done this. It is worth the extra time required for the saving on fare, parking and waiting in the TSA line.

Arnold Palmer Regional Airport, for example, tends to hire locals who don't have huge attitudes.

You think I suck? Wow! and why would that be, because I’m trying to have a logical discussion and understand your stance? You’re opinion of me doesn’t phase me. But, I am interested in how you would do things differently.

Much of the pack everything crowd resulted from adding fees for check-in bags. You really can't blame the passengers.

Spirt Airlines limits the carry on bag to something about briefcase size and charges more for bigger carry on bags than for the same size check bags.

Weird thing is that it is an ultra budget airline with super low fares. But they do charge for everything extra and I mean everything!

We put up with their nickel and dime charges for everything because they serve little regional airports which allow us to skip mammoth parking fees and long TSA lines. Just bring a few dollars to purchase bottled water in the gate side vending machine and pack a few granola bars.
