Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan, who has very conspicuously withheld any endorsement of GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, is absolutely crushing his Trump-supporting 2016 primary challenger.

The House Speaker leads the wan challenger, water filtration company executive Paul Nehlen, by 73 points among likely Republican primary voters in the first congressional district of Wisconsin, according a new poll conducted by The Washington Free Beacon.

The lopsided poll shows Ryan clobbering Nehlen, 80-7.

Assuming Ryan maintains some part of his healthy 73-point lead and defeats Nehlen, Ryan is likely to win the general election as well. He holds an 18-point lead over a generic Democrat (with 11 percent of voters undecided), the Free Beacon poll shows.

That’s too bad. I was hoping Nehlen would primary him. Ryan is part of the problem.

I agree. Trump is not supporting this guy, so why do they word it as such?

Makes me sick. We need to reach Wisconsin and get them to wake up!

I can see it.

Ryan is playing drama queen while refusing to endorse Trump.

Ryan’s opponent, however, endorsed Trump weeks ago.
Trump is the mover this election. It’s a way of showing Ryan on the losing side.

>They are free to try to take out Ryan, but the reality is he is very very safe.

I thought that Ryan would be a good choice for speaker until the day after he secured the position, but not so any longer.

The only reason Ryan MIGHT be ahead of his challenger is that he NOW supports Trump for POTUS. The weasel bastard is hoping to make peace with Trump who he OPENLY was against not so long ago.

He hasn’t come out and said anything that sounds like support for Trump

Well Ryan is starting to warm to Trump a bit. I suspect that he feels footsteps, even if the polling doesn’t yet show it. Cantor learned the HARD WAY that a huge lead in early polling doesn’t assure victory.

We’ll see how Ryan behaves through the convention. If he pisses off the Trump supporters, then there’s a damn good chance he’ll be a partner in Cantor’s lobbying office, I mean, law office, on K-Street.

Very disappointing. A vote for Ryan is almost like a vote to continue Obama's hate-America policies.

BTW, wasn't Cantor also leading by a huge margin initially?

Overrun by illegals and Muslim refugees from the Middle East. They like Ryan funding Obama’s agenda without question or concern of cost.

It’s not simply that. Wisconsin is GOPe territory, they showed that when they mobilized to defeat Trump soundly. Folks are free to try to defeat Ryan, but reality is he’s not in any danger and odds of taking him out are insanely low.

Ryan has always been very popular in his district, which is the only one that matters.

Like when he and Romney carried his district in 2012...NOT

Oh, I’m pretty sure it IS as simple as that: Santa Claus.

Long as he pulls the most he can from the taxpayers, using D.C., for his State/district, the electorate could not care less about the FUBAR status of the (once) Republic.

To paraphrase: Once the voters know they can vote themselves from the treasury...
