He started out by spewing doom and gloom about the future to USA and the economy because of the deficits. Then he goes on saying that since the beginning, the USA has been a free trading nation which is total and complete lie.

A 20% tariff balances the budget tomorrow.

Sick of this < expletive deleted >.

I guess trade deficits don't matter. Not all deficits are equal I guess.

He started in with the normal anti Trump lies. He trotted out the same old saw that Trump wants to end trade and for America to be isolationist.

It’s always presented as two options, foreign nations and our bankers running around utterly doing whatever they want, or isolationism.

It’s a false choice Mr Andrea Mitchell gave us.

I don’t agree with you about trade, but I don’t call you a “traitor” for supporting tariffs. Tariffs are a tax on consumers.

Ok was the USA a "free trade" nation from 1789 to 1913? Yes or no.

Was the Republican Party know as the party of trade protectionism up to WWII? Yes or No?

How can that old man get on TV and tell us we do not have it in us to cut our deficits. He basically said the USA is f-ed. Well a tariff balances the budget. And not a very big one either.

So if the economic situation is that bad and dire then why not?

Old people are afraid of a little inflation even if it save the country economically. They want their cheapo crap until they croak. Even though the stuff we import is only cheap quality and not price. Even if the country falls off the economic cliff they will hold the Free Traitor™ line. The word traitor fits like a glove.

“Open competition between high-paid American labor and poorly paid European labor,” warned Rep. William McKinley, “will either drive out of existence American industry or lower American wages.”

Under protectionist policies from 1865 to 1900, U.S. debt was cut by two-thirds. Customs duties provided 58 percent of revenue. Save for President Cleveland’s 2 percent tax, which was declared unconstitutional, there was no income tax. Commodity prices fell 58 percent. Real wages, despite a doubling of the population, rose 53 percent. Growth in GDP averaged over 4 percent a year. Industrial production rose almost 5 percent a year.

America is now and always has been a nation of traders. I’m amazed there is a union voice so strong allowed on Free Republic

A nation that ignores the laws of economics will die. Free trade will keep America strong. Protectionism only protects middle aged men who have no useful skills - and that protection would be short lived.

America is now and always has been a nation of traders.

A lie. The first bill passed by the first congress signed by President Washington was the Tariff Act of 1789. So now you know the truth. So stop spreading lies and misinformation. Only a traitor does that.

Trump said in ND today that we should not trust all those who have let us down for many yrs (could Greenspan be one of these?). He was speaking of Special Interest/Lobbyists; said he would run them all out of DC. He said they have let the country down yr after yr. Run them out of DC. He was adamant.

This speech is on YouTube
