WASHINGTON — President Obama and his family plan to move to a mansion in the upscale Kalorama neighborhood of Washington, a mere two miles from the White House, when he leaves office in January, according to people familiar with his plans.
Mr. Obama, who has said his family will remain in the capital until his daughter Sasha completes high school in 2018, will rent the 8,200-square-foot, nine-bedroom home, the people said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to reveal his plans.
The house — valued around $6 million, according to several real estate websites, with an estimated monthly rent of $22,000 on Zillow — is owned by Joe Lockhart, a former press secretary and senior adviser to Bill Clinton. Mr. Lockhart was until this year the managing director of a communications and political consulting practice he founded, the Glover Park Group, but has moved to Manhattan to become executive vice president for communications for the National Football League.

The move will put the Obamas in one of Washington’s wealthiest ZIP codes, in a secluded precinct backing up to Rock Creek Park that is home to diplomats and a focal point of the capital’s cocktail-party circuit. The home itself is luxurious; photographs posted by Washington Fine Properties, which listed it when it sold in 2014, show spacious rooms with hardwood floors, white marble countertops, his-and-her master bathrooms and a terrace with formal gardens.

If Sarah Palin had agreed to build a house like that, the elites would be laughing themselves silly over her icky bad taste, horrendous style and awful, embarrassingly weird choice of a home. A mix of the Addams family residence and a 15th century French prison.

Obama’s paying the rent... it’s his choice. Personally I think he’d be better off buying the house... ‘cause it’s hard to ‘go home again’... but again that’s Obama’s call.

Well, exactly. Why any youngish family would want to live in that dreary, dungeon-like home - at least from the outside - when Washington is full of gorgeous architecture (oops, early American! Maybe built with slave labor!!!), is beyond me.
I don’t like to take joy in others’ suffering, but he is in for a BIG letdown when he is no longer Leader of the Free World. He will have to wait in traffic etc. Much fewer servants...
Hope the owners get paid in full in advance. If the constitution doesn’t stop him from anything, I doubt a measly rent agreement will be considered binding.

Where did he get all that cash? And has he ever been involved with the vast money laundering, bribery, racketeering, tax evasion and conspiracy organization known as the “Clinton Foundation”?

The mammoth, multi-million-dollar mansion where resident Barack Obama and his family will reportedly live after the first family exits the White House is located 1,096 feet from the Islamic Center of Washington — one of the largest mosques in the Western Hemisphere.

The exterior of the Islamic Center features horseshoe arches, Arabic script and tall, ornate minaret. The building is surrounded by an array of flags representing the countries of the world where Islam is the state-sanctioned religion.
