Barrasso noted that in Idaho, the most commonly sold "silver" plan is considering deductibles of $6,850. "If you have insurance with a deductible of $6,850, is there any chance you're actually going to get to use that insurance?" he asked.

This is not a new criticism. It has been on Free Republic since before ObamaCare was even instituted.

If Americans are honest, ObamaCare is a wealth transfer program. They are taxed extra for ObamaCare and the deductible is nothing more than a money transfer to bureaucrats and insurance companies. We haven't even discussed premiums and copays.

A $6000 deductible is for most families the equivalent of zero insurance at all.

ObamaCare has always been a ripoff. Free Republic has always known that.

Why are politicians just now seeing it?

This is exactly why ObamaCare was never supposed to be a health care law ... it’s a tax, plain and simple.

“If you have insurance with a deductible of $6,850, is there any chance you’re actually going to get to use that insurance?”

I thought that was the point?

If only Senator Barrasso had read my tag line...it's been that way for about 6-7 years!

If I buy health insurance, I can no longer afford to go and see my doctor twice a year.

I can’t and won’t afford the premiums, because there is no point in paying through the nose for a product that I cannot use.

I can’t afford my drugs which I need to stay alive. I cannot afford anything that would trigger the deductible.

If I buy Obamacare, I will lose every last bit of health care that I pay cash for now.

If I buy Obamacare, I die.

that was the plan all along. the people knew that and so did the politicians but it was passed in to law anyway. Any DC politician who now complains is just pandering and in full display of their duplicity to screw over the citizens. They know Trump will make a difference in how DC operates and the career politicians are all trying to get on board only to save their own asses.

No one gets to use the insurance and the cost of day-to-day care goes up 25-40% thanks to the insurance companies’ paperwork.

Catastrophic coverage for the price of a platinum policy.

The worst of all worlds.

I pay $250 a month with a $6,000 deductible.

It’s a wonderful plan:
My doctor is not on the plan, so I have to pay him out of pocket.

The coverage is generally 60%

Comes with all kinds of disallowed procedures and drugs

F#ck that.

Keep meaning to cancel and will do so today.

Passing Obamacare was just Phase 1.

Phase 2 is blame everyone else when it doesn’t work. Why is your deductible so high? Well the rats will point towards ‘evil’ insurance companies and ‘greedy’ doctors. And another aspect of this is Medicaid expansion, which to date has been resisted by several states - so those ‘heartless’ GOP governors are to blame.

The democrats don’t really care about outcomes, or how badly they screw stuff up - because they always know the media will lead the sheeple to blame others. And once a group is vilified enough (ie the companies that perform near miracles in developing life saving drugs are ‘big pharma’), the rats can strike again with some other destructive law, or executive order.

My take was the middle class was subject to the deductible increases and the savings in costs from these deductibles were to be used to provide coverage to the low/no income class. Effectively, another way to penalize those who work and subsidize those who don’t.

They don’t care. The point was to get everyone in the system. Once in, they have control over you. They can set coverage, premiums and deductibles. They can put insurance companies out of business. They can take your money. They can give it to people who aren’t working for it.

Those free birth control pills really cost $6,000 before you take the first one.

But they are free.

As a nurse, I see what Obamacare has done. It was a tax on the wealthy and middle class to give to the “poor”- Obamas peeps. However, when you see the daily dose of the “poor” coming to the ER and getting admitted, they all have a problem list a mile long. They all have drug addictions, bad ( self induced) social situations, all are on some psychiatric med, they dont listen to medical advice, smoke cigs and drink alcohol. Their bad decisions make them unemployable and create medical problems. Obamacare extended coverage to these losers by managed plans run by private insurance companies. In order to recoup their losses by taking care of a bunch of losers, insurance companies are increasing the cost of coverage to the people who actually work. The losers dont pay a dime.
Insurance companies are not making a profit on these people.
I am waiting for retirement, because I deal with these people all day long, and it burns you out.

Back 30+ years ago, we had something called “Major Medical” insurance. Major Medical covered you for the expensive hospital stuff and when it came to doctors and prescriptions, you paid out of pocket. Because insurance companies didn’t pay the doctors directly and they didn’t cover prescriptions, the costs were low and most people could afford to pay them. Along came insurance companies with who said let me pay the doctors and buy your prescriptions. They didn’t tell you that managing this would be a massive cost. And the doctors and pharmaceutical companies didn’t help. They could charge more because the insurance companies paid.
The vicious advanced 30 years and now costs are astronomical because of this self-feeding greed.

Yup.

Obamacare Silver Plan is for suckers.

My Medicaid plan has zero monthly premiums, low co-payments and no deductibles.

Why the heck would I sign up for a plan that doesn’t actually insure me?
