Santorum endorses Trump
The Hill ^ | May 24, 2016 | Jesse Byrnes

Former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) is throwing his support behind controversial presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

"I'm 100 percent," Santorum said Tuesday during an interview on Fox News's "On The Record," when asked if he was supporting or endorsing Trump. "That's endorse."

Santorum, who backed Marco Rubio after dropping out of the race himself in February, said he spoke with Trump more than a week ago and he said the businessman asked for his support.

The former Senator indicated a top reason for endorsing Trump is the vacant Supreme Court seat. Santorum said he made a couple suggestions for Trump's list of potential nominees .

"The most important issue is preserving the Constitution of this country and a liberal Supreme Court will destroy it," Santorum said.

"I think Americans maybe just want a little unvarnished [candidate]. I can't say that I'm crazy about it," Santorum said in explaining Trump's support throughout the GOP primaries.

Santorum conceded that the 2016 race, in his view, is more about personalities than policy.

"I think the American public has made up their mind about Hillary Clinton. I think Donald Trump still has an opportunity to cast the right lot and win this election," Santorum said.

Too bad Rick picked Rubio when he suspended.

Rick was with Huck when they raised money for the Vets.

I liked Rick several years back, and of course Newt.

Rick is a foreign policy expert, and would make a good Sec. of State, but, I think his backing Rubio means he won’t even be considered for that job.

Rick is a real decent person, and the real deal religious guy not like Cruzifer. I hope he gets a job in a new administration.

I’ve seen people claim Trump basically based his entire candidacy on Santorum’s book.

Santorum was the furthest out there of anyone besides Trump in trying to push specific policies targeted at boosting manufacturing. Both of them doing it in ways that rankle traditional conservatives because they specifically targeted either tax breaks (Santorum) or tax hikes (Trump) at manufacturers to incentivize them to stay here.

No it is not. NO one in PA gives two shits about Santorum. He is a little (and I do mean little) establishment player. He cannot sway squat in the state of PA. Around my parts of Western PA, Santorum is in the league of Corbett, Ridge and Specter. Damaging individuals to the state of PA.

Ted Cruz is as “real deal” religious as Rick Santorum. There isn’t one thing in his record that says otherwise. Cruz has fought consistently and thoroughly for all the issues Christian conservatives care about.

Santorum was one of the few besides Cruz I heard Mark Levin single out and praise at various times during this primary. I’d say he’d have been in both my or Levin’s top 3 picks if we had our way.

And Santorum is still the absolute best V.P. choice Trump could make. He helps shore up Christian conservative support while helping demographically in swing states Penn. and Ohio.

Keeping his country.

As unpalatable as Trump may be to those who find him boorish and offensive, he’s a significant better option than Hillary — and Santorum recognizes that. No need to be snarky when he’s just helped Trump.

The problem with Rick Santorum is not some of his policies, it is his personality and the fact that he is “Rick Santorum”. He is a nice guy, but he is too nice, like “Mr. Rodgers”.

Trump is like a stampeding elephant, get out of the way and either get in behind him and start following him after he blows past you or risk getting mowed down on his next pass...

What recent PA Republican Senator or governor is popular in PA? There’s a reason they either lose elections handily or barely win in a GOP sweep year.

That doesn’t mean Santorum doesn’t have a hometown advantage that helps get enough votes for Trump to make the difference in a close swing state.

I’ve never had much love for Santorum, but I do have respect. He does bring a piece of the GOP base to Trump, and that certainly is helpful in extending his margin of victory, and his mandate in November.

I don’t view being nice as being a negative. We need much more politeness and niceness in this country, not more aggression and rudeness.

Good for Santorum. He was far superior to Romney in 2012, and he still is.

As I recall his 2012 campaign, he presented the simple truth that blacks could drastically improve the entire course of their lives by returning to nuclear families. Simple truth.

His blue collar roots were genuine too, as was his faith. All very impressive.

He was unassuming (even humble) but strong. Yes, those are still excellent traits, even though we need Trump’s aggression at this point in our nation’s history.

This time around, Santorum probably thought he had a decent shot; but it was not to be. He did not go kamikaze or sell out.

The man is impressive and honorable. He is a very worthy person for Trump’s team.

Few negatives. Don't think he's a liability on the ticket.

Yes, Rick looks Presidential, knows his stuff, has the demeanor women want, the pious people would love him to be the nominee, so why didn’t they vote for this truly good guy?

Is it because he has been around this track once to often?

I don’t know. Rick reminds me of the Capt. America character, a person too good for running against the Clinton’s , they would lie about him and chew him up and spit him out. A nice guy who would lose, a guy who seems out of date for this age and its nasty MSM who doctor video tapes, lie and distort the facts to help Crooked Hillary.

I agree. Rick Santorum was my senator. A very good man, all around. Too good for politics, it would seem. Santorum is an honorable man and someone that many young people would do well to emulate and use as a “role model”.
