Are You Ready For...Vice President Newt Gingrich?
townhall.com ^ | Guy Benson

Really interesting stuff from National Review's Eliana Johnson, whose latest campaign dispatch sheds light on just how close Newt Gingrich has become with the presumptive Republican nominee -- and how hard the former House Speaker is said to be lobbying behind the scenes for a spot on the ticket. Are you ready for Trump/Gingrich 2016, America?

Gingrich has, in effect, launched his own campaign to secure the nomination. “I think Newt is lobbying to be the vice president, and I think their people are paying a lot of attention to him,” says Ed Rollins, a Republican operative and former Gingrich staffer now working for a super PAC supporting Trump’s candidacy.

*snip*

Gingrich has a reputation for insinuating himself into campaigns by firing off dozens of e-mails brimming with ideas that range from brilliant to insane. While it’s a quality that has irritated previous presidential candidates such as John McCain and Mitt Romney, sources say that Trump has come to value the former speaker’s opinions. “They talk every day,” says a source familiar with the relationship, who claims that Gingrich e-mails Trump, campaign chairman Paul Manafort, and campaign manager Corey Lewandowski “countless times a day.”...Gingrich’s influence within Trump World is widespread. Inside Trump’s newly established campaign offices in Washington, D.C., his fingerprints are everywhere. “Right from the minute I joined we were told that Newt will have his hand in every major policy effort,” says one Trump aide. “So one of the things I do when I’m researching or writing anything, in addition to looking at what Trump has said about anything, I look at what Newt has said.”

We could, but The Donald isn't stupid and won't choose Rand Paul, Cruz, Rubio, etc.!

This balloon is being pushed by many, not just Hannity, and it's beyond STUPID! They might as well suggest that trump pick Bernie. ;^)

“Newt as VP essentially discredits all attacks on Billy for being a serial rapist.”

Really? Who did Newt rape?

The association of Newt with Man Made Climate Change is mostly misinformation. Newt got on the discussion group to add the global warming critique from a conservative perspective. He was never on board with these envioron-weenie bed wetters.

it does nullify Trump’s attack on Slick Willie!

Trump's attack on Clinton is about a crime (serial rape)...nothing nullifies that.

Placing Newt a heartbeat away puts Trump under tremendous danger.

just like VP Bush did to Ronald Regan. GH Bush was forced on to Regan as his VP and the Hinckley and Bush families as some have divulged were close personal friends. Nancy Regan admitted that she never trusted Bush.

No, I’m not. Besides being a has-been, he’s a loose cannon and he carries enough baggage to sink the Queen Mary.

Agreed. Vice President Newt would probably sink the ticket.

Four divorces and six wives between a president and VEEP is all Hillary and her team needs to nullify the Bill attacks. And there was only ONE rape ( Juanitia's ) that we know of, which was NEVER brought to trial, nor even really made all that public.

You don't understand how the Dems work, but you should. And it's not just Newt's marriages, the Clinton team have already brought Newt down before and still have that play book. Newtie isn't Trump; he's flypaper, where The Donald is Teflon.

We need someone who can run for President after Trump is done with his one term. Or two if decides he doesn’t want to just retire at Trump Tower.

One thing the Republican party doesn't seem to be lacking in is candidates. You don't need to train them through the VP spot.

Yes absolutly. Newt knows the ropes better than anyone because he has made the mistakes that must be avoided.

Vice President Mattis; he basically becomes President Tump's life insurance policy and will pick up the ball and run with it (and crucify anyone in his way) if Trump gets assassinated.
