A federal jury has found a San Jose man who traveled to Manila several times to have sex with an underage girl guilty of sex tourism.
A federal jury on Friday also convicted 56-year-old Michael Lindsay of obstruction charges.

Paging the Clintons.
Oh, that’s right, Clintons are above the law. Nevermind.
This guy is guilty and Bill Clinton’s romps on Jeffrey Epstein’s pedo island and the luxurious flight on the way there is not? We are living in some kind of sick monarchy.
Not that I’m in favor of sex tourism, but from whence do they get the jurisdiction to criminalize actions occurring outside the boundaries of their, well, jurisdiction? (I’m pretty sure that’s why they call it that)
Think about that. 26 trips to an island for sex with children.
“Let’s see, the Federal Government tells us what/how/who we can and cannot 1) eat, 2) drink, 3) smoke, 4) watch on TV, 5) listen to on the radio, 6) do on our land, 7) drive, 8) build, 9) tear down, 10) buy, 11) sell, 13) own, 14) travel to, 15) travel from, 16) say, 17) borrow money, 18) lend money, 19) grow, 20) associate with, 21) where to live, 22) not to live, 24) who to live with, 25) cook, 26) clean with, 28) give money to, 29) accept money from, 28) invest in, 29) buy from, 30) sell to, 31) live, 32) die, 33) have sex with......I could go on.....But yeah, these people are nuts.”
I agree 100% —sex tourism is disgusting, but since WHEN does US law extend all over the planet..?
And:
It is seldom that the US will stick up for you overseas, but it’s interesting that when the possibility of BUSTING you comes up, well, they’re all over that.
Sometimes crazy 3rd World backwaters whine about “the US is thinking it has authority over the rest of the world..”
But in fact these types of new laws show that thinking is not so crazy.
I've been to Thailand a number of times on military missions and I've seen these huge metal signs, about 5' wide and 6' high, warning Americans that the US government will prosecute anyone found to engage in sexual relations with underage children. As for how they can prosecute, it's probably in the fine print of your passport application, although I'm just speculating. Surely there's at least one FReeper who is a legal beagle.
Well, yeah, that's sort of what I was wondering. Unless he is bringing the victims to U.S. soil, what jurisdiction does our country have?
See post 8.
Sounds like something Trump should repeal.
As posted in post #8 there is a US law against going somewhere to have sex with minors. Kinda sick that we *need* a law like that, but clearly we did. What happens in Thailand doesn’t stay in Thailand.
Because our fearless leaders signed an agreement for us to be subject to UN Laws.
I hope he suffers....
typical....sadly so typical...and very telling about some posters....
Don't think anyone is defending the perv's but opposing the governmental overreach of Americans personal lives throughout the world.
I'm hoping this is the type of governmental meddling that a Trump administration would reverse
I agree completely. While there is nothing lower than a pedophile, traveling outside of the country is outside of our jurisdiction. It should be up to said country to prosecute.
Mr. Trump should get us out of that UN agreement if we can just be prosecuted for any old thing willy nilly.
Just curious, would maritime law apply for a crime committed in an airplane above international waters?
“It should be up to said country to prosecute.”
Really it should, why is it our governments responsibility to make any American be good in a foreign country.
I’m not sure about the application of maritime law to crimes committed on planes above international waters I suspect it is a “duty free” zone...
Maritime law does apply to these ridiculous tuna fishing treaties we are entangled in, another thing for a Trump administration to put a stop to.
Don’t forget the cuulong! That’s worse than the tuna treaties.
Hope a Trump administration puts a stop to all that crap...
