Pat Brady. Pat Brady?
Roy’s old sidekick went into politics? Na. He was much too wise for that. This guy must be an impostor.
If this lunatic Brady replied with that phrase, he should be expelled from his party position immediately.
The real Pat Brady was a participant in the Battle of the Bulge. I doubt if he’d even allow this guy to sit in Nellybelle.
[Pat Brady. Pat Brady?]
Laura Higgins says it best: “For those who may have forgotten, Pat Brady is the disgraced former Illinois Republican Party chairman who, before Illinois legalized same-sex marriages, skulked around Springfield, secretly trying to convince Republicans to vote in favor of the law that recognizes non-marital unions as marriages. Once ousted from his position as chairman, the ACLU hired him to lobby Republicans to support same-sex faux-marriage.”
And we wonder why the Illinois GOP is in the gutter?
Friday morning I sent this text message to Pat Brady who sits on the Illinois GOP Platform Committee that proposed removing the marriage plank that defines marriage as the union of one man and one woman... Brady responded, "F**k u."
I’ve never heard of him.
Libertarians do tend to couch things in terms of rights and perhaps the new version of the plank is the best that can be done in that vein. One could augment this with a statement that children, due to their neediness, even have the right that families without children should still, as much as possible, mirror at least the parental structure of families with children — lest they suffer offense. This seizes the “it’s all for the children” and “do not offend” memes from the liberals and puts them in their proper context.
It doesn’t head in an altogether bad direction. How about that all conceived children have the right to be born when possible?
I see short-sighted knee jerking and rhetoric-making more than a dispassionate comparison of the merits of the views.
His party position was a member of the platform committee, for the convention. That position was scheduled to last yesterday and today. That’s probably why he didn’t care whether other Republicans disagree with him. He knew that he wouldn’t be fired from that position.
The problem with politics today is that the elected believe that they have no need for the voters.
Marriage was destroyed between 1969 and 1974.
This is just mopping up.
Not that it matters.
The Republicans in power pay about as much attention to the GOP platform as they do to the Constitution.
We need repairmen, not just moppers.
Granted however that the government can’t fix this, and it was foolish to think it could. This is where churches must start letting the voice of God through and looking like it too. They have often painfully sounded as though it were all about them, rather than all about God.
One could ask, rhetorically, why make a promise that they are not in a position to keep?
They could change it (and perhaps some other planks) to a more general “We respectfully honor, and will not oppose, the faith traditions that have historically brought America success and greatness.”
Sure. Why not? The party is already consistently squishy. Might as well make it official. Truth in advertising and all that.
My own philosophy has been developing to be: the government stature should decrease; the private stature (especially the church) should increase.
Government has bitten off more than God ever wanted it to chew. The result is that it has, high-mindedly, turned against things that God wanted it to support. This is why the redneck meme is so appealing to me. Simple and not too sophisticated. Let churches preach living like the Ten Commandments. Governments have plenty on their hands living like God told Noah, millennia ago, covering a minimum of public decency and leaving high minded quests (like our current drug prohibition and all manner of labor intervention, among dozens of other things) alone.
Does anyone know the name of Patrick Brady’s “husband?” And whether the “husband” is human or of the animal kingdom. This POS is exactly what has made the Illinois GOP such a powerhouse.
Well, that would be fine and dandy, except for the fact that the natural family is the most important and fundamental building block of civic and economic life, and the basis for republican self-government.
Destroy the natural family, as God devised, defined, and instituted it, and every single clause of the stated purposes of the Constitution of the United becomes impossible of fulfillment.
There are no buts to what was told to Noah.
There is a limited respect for this idea of family in the anti-adultery direction that was told to Noah. This would mean at the least no open homosexual relationships, no cheating on spouses.
However it is not for the government to order the creation and regimentation of a building block. It will forever muff it because that needs the hand of God not of Caesar. Let the church oversee that, and let Caesar merely speak well of it and forbid adultery. Then we will be following the bible rather than our own philosophisings about it, like you are following right here.
