NRA, Trump: Clinton would abolish 2nd Amendment, gun rights
WAVE 3 News- Louisville ^ | May 20, 2016 | GORDON BOYD

The National Rifle Association may be a nation unto itself in its commitment to the right to bear arms.

The number of members attending its annual convention here is larger than the combined populations of Jeffersonville and Clarksville, Ind.; more than 70,000.

But the message its leadership delivered by endorsing Donald Trump, and by hosting his second Louisville visit, is aimed at the more than 5 million members who stayed home.

"This election is about the soul of the country, and the Second Amendment," said Chris Cox, executive director of the NRA's Institute for Legislative Action. "If your preferred candidate got out of the race, it's time to get over it."

Pre-produced vignettes, some commercial-length, featured luminaries ranging from country singer Charlie Daniels to retired Marine Lt. Col. Oliver North. Daniels referred to President Barack Obama as a "flower child" while North accused the President of abandoning Iraq.

All alluded, or directly declared, that former First Lady, U.S. Senator, Secretary of State and Democratic front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton would be far worse were she to win the White House.

"(Clinton) wants a world where only law enforcement has guns, free health care, free education," Cox said. "Well, Hillary, that place does exist, and you just might get to live there. It's called prison."

"The only way to save our Second Amendment is to vote for a person you all know named Donald Trump," Trump told those Assembled in Freedom Hall. "There are 13 million permit holders in the U. S. I happen to be one of them. Nobody knows that."

Trump made no mention of assault rifles, though he once supported the federal ban on certain weapons classified as such. But he indicated that some mass killings, including the incident in San Bernardino that took 14 lives, could have prevented by "a good guy with a gun. Boom!"

Trump intimated what NRA leaders have stated outright: that Clinton would undermine gun rights by filling vacancies on the Supreme Court with Justices who would shut down firearms manufacturers.

"We could have three, four, five vacancies coming in the next four to eight years," he said. "I challenge her to name (whom she is considering)."

Trump referenced teleprompters and prepared speeches to acknowledge that many of his gun-specific remarks came from prepared texts.

He drew more sustained applause going back off the cuff; repeating his pledges to save Social Security and Medicare, repeal Obamacare (the Affordable Care Act health-insurance reform mandates), build a Mexican border wall to block illegal immigration, heavily tax American manufacturers who move jobs overseas, "rebuild" America's military and destroy ISIS as a terror threat.

"I'm doing better in the polls with women," he said. "My poll numbers with men are through the roof, but I like women more than men! C'mon, women! Let's go."

Many of the NRA's blasts of Clinton are targeted to women voters. One vignette, featured a young woman who seeks a candidate "who can place their hand on a Bible and swear to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution, without telling a lie.

"There are many powerful accomplished women in both parties who meet and exceed that standard," she continued, "but you Mrs. Clinton, aren't one of them."

"Women and children would be most vulnerable and defenseless in Clinton's anti-gun culture," Trump said, "Like what she said about the (coal) miners."

Trump was referencing, indirectly, commercials that Kentucky Senator Rand Paul has aired as part of his re-election bid. Clinton claims a snippet, in which she says "we're going to put coal miners out of business" was taken out of context, and actually referenced a plan to retrain miners, or develop other employment options, as renewable energy sources to replace fossil fuels.

Arguably, the comments may have contributed to her neck-and-neck finish in Kentucky's primary Tuesday, in which she edged challenger Bernie Sanders by little more than 1,000 votes.

Eight years ago, she captured 65 percent of the primary vote against then-challenger Barack Obama,

"You'd be surprised how much I know about Kentucky," Trump said.

The NRA sees a friend in senior U.S. Senator, now Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell. Its Victory Fund Political Action Committee contributed $9,900 to his re-election campaigns in 2014 and 2008, and $6,500 in 2002, according to reports filed with the Federal Election Commission.

The Victory Fund PAC has given $2,000 to Kentucky Republican incumbents Andy Barr (6th District) and Hal Rogers (5th District), and $1,000 to Brett Guthrie (2nd District) in their bids for re-election to the House of Representatives.

As of April 21, the fund reported it had raised $13,192,504 for the election cycle, and spent $2,300,986.

McConnell, Paul, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence and Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin all were acknowledged Friday. Bevin joined those urging members to translate their enthusiasm into activism.

"Some of you may be asked to make a sacrifice," Bevin told attendees. "It's the fact that it's not enough to just go to the polls this November."

When you fear the government it’s TYRANNY .
When the government fears the citizens it’s DEMOCRACY .

The 2nd amendment is our guarantee against TYRANNY .

“The 2nd amendment is our guarantee against TYRANNY .”

That’s right. But, the only arms it covers are military
grade. Not sporting and self defense small arms. We have
the right to anything that is:
A. Military grade
B. Anything one man can carry.

That’s what we’re up against, that’s what we need.
22’s, 410’s, 380’s, bb guns etc. can be regulated
because they are not military grade.

Now whether this will be debated on constitutional grounds
or on moderate talking points is to be seen but a good
argument can be made.

Bet to differ on one point: Letters of Marque and the like.

Those were private individuals whom had CANNONS and such; a bit more than ‘what one man may carry’.

IMO, the sky’s the limit....if one has the $$ and ability.

I agree with Trump absolutely, but Hillary cannot simply “abolish” the 2nd Amendment with a wave of her gnarled hand.

Yes, yes, states can make it very hard on gun owners, look at NY, CT, CA. But other states can & do become very gun friendly. Might even cause a seismic population shift but that’s another topic.

Repealing an Amendment requires passing & ratifying a new Amendment, which is an extremely difficult Constitutional process, just as the Founders intended.

You know, those old dead slaveowning white guys.

“When you fear the government it’s TYRANNY”

It just goes to show how the liberals can infect your mind.

When I first glanced on the sentence above, I thought .... this doesn’t even make any sense. That’s because I had read it as ...

When you fear the government it’s TRANNY.

They are now in my mind as well as my bathroom

Yes she can by way of packing the Supreme Court. The ACLU or the Southern Poverty Law Center will be invited to file an anti Second Amendment lawsuit and work their way up the ladder. The Hillary Supreme Court will then decide that the Second Amendment means for the militia only ( military or police). Then they will rule that gun confiscation is legal and good public policy.

Then lots of already gun friendly states will work the words of the 2nd Amendment into their constitutions, and say to Preezy Hilly, “How ‘bout dem apples?”

Civil wars have started over less. If she wants to reprise Little Rock 1957, then bring it.

But frankly, I don’t think Hillary will be elected, and that’s after a year of assuming that she was inevitable. She’s starting to implode & no amount of voter fraud can stop that.

Hillary is for gunmakers being sued for the actions of the user. If she appoints anti 2nd amendment judges, she wont have to issue any executive orders. The gunmakers will be sued out of existence. Same with ammo makers.

This is what this “smart gun” technology is all about. If a gunmaker is not in compliance, they will be sued for every gun murder.

Lotsa “dumb guns” out there now & I’ll bet the gun manufacturers are adding shifts. End of election year production figures will probably outstrip the last twenty years put together.

Hillary thinks she’s Madame Jiang Qing Mao but she really isn’t.

Agree, but she can effectively destroy by 2nd through SCOTUS appointments and signing a myriad of oppressive legislation: ammo, overly restrictive background checks, req’d registration, suing gun manufacturers, staging more mass murders, etc.

Busy rats have likely proposed a ten thousand page document akin to Obummercare. They can chip away at it till there’s little left.

Clinton will gut the 2nd, like a fish.

Coal miners as fuel.

Here’s what she will do:

If you own a firearm you will have to carry insurance. If you don’t have a “smart gun” your rates will be considerably higher.

They will require riders be placed on your homeowners and renters insurance if you own any firarms. Most companies will not offer the riders do to excessive cost and liability.

If you can afford the insurance, and/or a smart gun, you will be required to ensure your firearms are properly stored. You will require a yearly inspection and fee.

If you don’t have a smart gun, the storage and inpection requirements will be prohibitively expensive.

If you successfully defend yourself with a firearm, you will be subject to civil penalty from the offender and/or thier family, hense the need for insurance.

Or you can voluntarily surrender your firearm. It’s for the children.

“Here’s what she will do:”

She and what army? Not being snarky, but this isn’t North Korea. If Preezy Hillary wants to start squeezing gun owners, she can only do so much with E.O.’s. Most of what you describe requires enabling legislation.

I think Trump has pierced her candidacy worse than the Titanic with his NRA endorsement & doubling down on Hillary’s desire for Australian style confiscation (which would require Federal registration of all firearms & try getting that passed & then try enforcing it).

Shrillary will run hard to the left and screech that “It’s time to declare that America’s love affair with guns is over!!!”

I think she’ll lose over guns. Didn’t learn anything in 1994, I guess, not even with Bill going “Now dear, we lost big in ‘94, it’s not worth it”.

She thinks she’s Empress but she’s not. No amount of appearances on the Ellen Degenerate show will bring that about.

Hillary and the Left are on the defensive, of course conservatives and the 2A people have no idea on how to press an advantage. Today at that partisan outfit NBC they are denying that Clinton wants to ban guns. Now would be time to press an attack and set the parameters of the debate to our favor.
