What does Trump want in a VP? His top execs take a guess (some interesting intel)

Donald Trump has hired hundreds of people throughout his career and soared to national fame as the star of a reality TV show dubbed the "ultimate job interview."

Now, as the Republican Party's presumptive presidential nominee, Trump is beginning the most consequential interview process of his lifetime: choosing a vice president.

While Trump has never before had to pick a political partner, he has had plenty of practice sifting through resumes and hand-picking executives to help run his real estate empire. Four current and past senior managers at the Trump Organization who agreed to speak with CNN -- including the general managers of the Trump golf course in Los Angeles and the Trump International Hotel in New York -- shed light on how Trump deliberates over his corporate hires -- and what kind of qualities Trump likes in a No. 2.

"Many of the same qualities that he would look for for someone to work closely with him within his organization are going to apply to his search for a VP," said Jill Martin, vice president and assistant general counsel for the Trump Organization.

Deeply loyal

Martin and others describe a boss who demands deep loyalty, both to him and his franchise. He is drawn to conventional markers of prestige, such as Ivy League degrees or past employment at well-known firms. He can be somewhat of a micromanager, at times involved in even the minutiae of decorating decisions throughout his numerous properties. Despite exerting this level of control, he also takes to employees who push back and speak their minds -- as long as they remember he is u

He’ll pick someone who is qualified for the job, unlike so many in DC who were picked for anything but their qualifications.

He said he is looking for someone with experience in getting legislation passed - I don’t think he ever said anything specific to DC. So, that opens it up a bit. I would look for Gingrich, Sessions, Martinez, Scott Walker, Rick Perry, Christie, Scott Brown, or Mary Fallin.

THey both have tea party connections. It would not surprise me at all if his name came up.

Tend to agree with you. Adelson, who backed Newt when he was running, has recently endorsed Mr. Trump. Would he whisper sweet nothings in Mr. Trump’s ear that Newt would be the best choice? And how would Mr. Trump take this advise? Agree? Tend to disagree? What part would Newt find unacceptable to the arrangement? Does Newt’s bride go with the territory? The two always seem to work hand in hand much like Sen Ted and his NWO bride, Heidi.

Not going to happen. Trump will not reduce the size of government. He may try to bend it to his purposes but that’s as far as he will get. The idea that Trump will bring in some sort of revolution is a fanatasy.

NO WAY would K-sick be acceptable. Please, no K-sick. As much as Newt is not praised, he is still more acceptable than John.

Good choice. Would the Sen. take the offer if it were given? He loves our country much like Mr. TRiUMPh and WTP Sen Sessions would be loyal to US

I see you know exactly squat about businessmen and how successful business execs operate.

West and Trump would make a great team. Both are unafraid to fight, don’t mince words, and both love this country; loyal to WTP. His name on the short list would be encouraging. And knowing the byways and highways of the halls of Congress, would be excellent if given the opportunity. The man knows first hand how the rats attempt to bring down those they don’t care for.

“He has a lot of the same bona fides as Gingrich, without as many downsides.”

Other than the downside that there’s not a nickel’s worth of difference between Kasich and Hillary on the top half dozen important issues.

Not to mention, what’s the Kasich loyalty factor that is Trump’s most important selection criteria?

“Palin, same problem, that voice.”

I can’t stand to listen to Palin because of that voice, and I’m a shell-backed conservative and a die-hard Trump supporter.

I think Trump only wants to serve one term and groom a successor, so it’s crucial that the person he picks can take over for him.

Marsha Blackburn - far more conservative than Condi the Bushite.

Never heard of her.But that certainly doesn't mean she's not excellent.Has she held public office and,if so,which one(s)? And assuming she's as good as you suggest she is name recognition might be a problem unless,of course, she's been in Congress,a Governor,a cabinet official, etc.

There you go, a VP that is a veteran, conservative AND helps Trump with California.

**************

It would be nice if CA could be enticed to vote Republican but they have voted Democrat
for the last six presidential elections. I don’t see a congressional representative
having that much sway statewide. JMO...

This is too big a choice to pick on the basis of ‘optics’... that’s a democrat way of thinking...

The biggest problem Trump has is our founders created a system that is intentionally difficult to move quickly. That STOPS any bad guys from doing lots of damage in four years - BUT it also stops good guys from getting a lot done.

It’s probably why Trump looks around and can’t believe the lack of ‘talent’ like you would find in the business world.

Might be another reason to pick Gingrich ....

There is a difference between what he might *want*, and what he truly *needs*. In corporate terms, he needs a “hatchet man”. For W. Bush, Dick Cheney came close, but he was underused ...

Interesting choice... you don't think there's too much bad blood between Trump and Cruz? You make a good point here - hatchet men can help...

I have no earthly idea what you mean by “optics.”
