Pennsylvania Could Be An Electoral Tipping Point
538 ^ | 0517/16 | David Wasserman

When most people think of battleground America, they think of Florida and Ohio, two of only three states (along with Nevada) that have voted for the winner of every presidential election since 1996. They tend not to think of Pennsylvania as a classic “swing state” — it has voted for the Democrat in every election since 1992, and it didn’t even crack the top 10 in 2012 campaign ad spending.

But in 2016, Pennsylvania could be the keystone of the Electoral College and the ultimate arbiter of whether Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton resides at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

If Trump grabs the Keystone State, he’s the 45th president.

I guess that would be encouraging. But to my mind this particular election is a sea change in politics. All the rules have been broken and ‘convention’ has been thrown out the window. My take is that it has been chucked is because of the lying, cheating, dissembling, quisling politicians we have on both sides of the aisle. Drive by America and even the more urban parts where people still work for a living have had effing enough.

I think we are about to witness a change in politics and direction the likes of which we haven’t seen for a couple hundred years.

I agree and something people are not talking about is the public schools

MOST of the electorate has come, and probably will continue to come, from the government indoctrination centers

Trump has opened up and drawn the battle lines in many venues and if America is EVER going to get "back" to a saner, more moral society, it will HAVE to come from the public schools .... which are chock-a-block full of every imaginable lefty type teachers

If Pennsylvania is in play, then there are many other blue states in play. Very bad news for the dems and Hillary.

Trump will win at least 450 electoral votes - including (obviously) Pennsylvania.

Trump will need an ARMY of poll watchers in Philadelphia.

And they’d better come prepared to do battle with the Black Panthers.

Pennsylvania p*$$ed away a golden opportunity to become a major influence in national presidential politics back in 2011. We had a GOP governor, majorities in both houses of the legislature and the senate majority leader who had introduced a bill to award our electoral votes on the same basis as Maine and Nebraska-- 2 for the statewide winner, one for the winner of each congressional district.

The likely outcome would've been a 14-6 (net 8) or even 15-5 (net 10) split in favor of the GOP.

The governor was all pledged to sign the bill if passed. The @$$hat GOP chairman then teamed up with columnist George Will to make sure it never made it of committee. Their arguments were idiotic and can be summarized as follows:

  1. It is mean, divisive and unfair to the Democrats. (Hello, when have they ever been worried about being unfair to the GOP?)
  2. Why should we agree to a guaranteed split when we can win all 20? (Yeah, and if you do win all 20, we are talking about a 40 state blowout where our 20 electoral votes won't make any difference)
  3. No other big state splits electoral votes this way, only states with 5 electoral votes or less. (So what? Maybe the people who shoulder most of the tax burden for the Commonwealth ought to have a say in presidential politics once in awhile, not just the multiple voting drones in Philadelphia.)
  4. If we did it, other mid-sized states like Ohio, Michigan and Florida might follow. (That would be a good thing and for the same reasons. Candidates would actually have to campaign statewide rather than lock up votes in the two or three largest cities.)

Pennsylvania is tailor made for Trump in 2016. PA is one of the whitest states in the country, one of the oldest states and one with large numbers of blue collar, displaced and non college educated voters. I say this not to be disparaging or to parrot a media meme but to simply state facts. My parents live in PA and I have numerous cousins, aunts, uncle, friends etc in NEPA. That is just the reality of PA in 2016. Aside from your urban areas in Pittsburgh and Philly and the suburbs around each, the state is largely rural, white , pro 2A and economically depressed. The fact that Republicans can never win it is sad and an indictment of the poor candidates they’ve run. Trump will change that in 2016 and I believe he will win PA comfortably by about 4-5 points over Hildebeast.

One of the many EPIC FAILS of RINO Governor Tom Corbett.

So he became the first one-termer in half a century, and we are now stuck with the radical nutjob Wolf.

Even those folks from the public schools will vote for Trump. I attended public schools and will vote for Trump this November.

I attended public schools too.
Three decades ago when you could still learn something there.

They’ve fallen very far, VERY fast since then.

He will need such an army of poll watchers for BOTH Philadelphia and Pittsburgh big time.

Look for some possible bikers among the poll watchers to take on the Black Panthers.

Hildy is going to get crushed in the Rust Belt bad this time around. The administration’s policies have devastated these states economically. Lots of cross over union Dem votes.

Yep. Every now and then you have a paradigm shift. Remember that California used to be swing and went for Eisenhower, Nixon in 1960, Nixon again, and Reagan. Then in the early 90s you had the paradigm shift where it became a “blue” state, when the Dems learned they could stir up racial animosity and pander to certain groups. Now we have a new paradigm shift, in our favor.

I have seen a number of live videos of Trump rallies and there were a LOT of young people/adults who came either alone or via family, not all would have been going to either private school or home school.

Yup, I left teaching just because of that.

Being forced to be ineffective just to get a pension isn’t honest work.

Trump should take PA by at least 5 points IMHO. I don’t see any way Hillary can win here, she is despised by the majority of Dems I know. Some will vote for her anyway, but lots and lots will not.

Philly is the BIG problem. Some districts have recorded 107% turnout in past elections!

The unions managed to stack our State Supreme Court with Leftists by offering one entry in a CASH LOTTERY to people who showed up and voted in Philadelphia.
