Hillary Pledges Open Borders, Levin Responds with Attack on Trump’s Tariffs
Breitbart.com ^ | 14 May 2016 | Julia Hahn

Last week, Donald Trump met with the family members of Sarah Root, a beautiful, beaming 21-year-old girl slaughtered by an illegal alien in Nebraska the day after graduating from college with 4.0 GPA. Later that day, Trump warned, “Crooked Hillary Clinton wants completely open borders.”

Indeed, a review of Clinton’s campaign website reveals that her immigration plan is even more radical than that of Barack Obama, who completely suspended enforcement of America’s immigration law and printed hundreds of thousands of work permits for illegal aliens.

However, a much more pressing topic seems to have triggered the passions of radio host Mark Levin who, along with Jamie Weinstein, is one of the most vocal members of the #NeverTrump movement. In the course of two days, Levin penned two lengthy denunciations of Trump’s trade platform and Breitbart News’s coverage of it.

In a story featured on this website, Levin emotionally warns conservative Americans that Trump’s effort to boost American manufacturing represents a kind of existential threat to conservatism. Levin is seemingly unconcerned with the prospect that his energetic Trump-bashing could help place Hillary Clinton in a position to add millions more Third World migrants to America, who almost certainly will not support Levin’s vision of smaller government conservatism nor tune in to his radio show where he espouses the same.

We are in a trade war and have been for years, particularly with China, Taiwan and South Korea.

They don’t understand it because they don’t have to live with it. Mark Levin like the swells at National Review are all millionaire pundits with six & seven figure publishing deals and McMansions in the DC and NYC exurbs.

They don’t have to have their precious snowflakes in ‘racially diverse’ classrooms swarming with third world illiterates. They don’t have to compete with the sub-par under the table slave wages that third worlders have established as proper recompense for a days work.

Spot on!

Levin is being consistent. Free trade works, between individuals, between states and even between countries. This tariff stuff sounds good to the economically illiterate but it's bad. While the damage of international trade is concentrated and obvious to the makers of widgets, the effect of cheaper goods coming in means that everybody else has more money left over to spend on other things. Free trade is the greater good. Not to mention once you start a trade war the other side hits back.

Is it "free trade" when china has a 27% tariff on most US goods and an additional 22% on autos? Is it free trade when they devalue their currency? Is it free trade when japan bans 70% of all USA products via 45% tariffs?

WHO STARTED THIS ON GOING TRADE WAR?

Like so many US policies, the other side is fighting, while we are just participating.

The Cheap Labor Express™ radio mouth pieces seem to think the USA has always been a free trading country from the beginning which is lie to to nth degree. Not only that, up to recent times, the Republican was known as the protectionist party.

BS. Were all the founding fathers economically illiterate when the erected massive trade barriers in the 19th century?

More globalist propaganda. I am waiting for Ford, Carrier and Nabisco to announce price reductions the products they now make in Mexico. /sarc

To Levin, what he did is logical. To those of his ilk Donald, not Hillary is the enemy. However, there are those who love and worship him on this forum. Neither he, nor those of his ilk, have not changed from what they have changed from what they have always been. Donald just caused them to expose themselves.

“[free trade] means that everybody else has more money left over to spend on other things. Free trade is the greater good.”

What you leave out of your equation is that you have to have a job first in order to have money left over after buying all those cheaper goods.

And in those other countries that we have to compete against, their workers will never have any money left over to buy OUR goods because their wages are so low. That is why we have a deficit with Mexico; they can’t afford to buy our goods. That was correctly foreseen and pointed out before NAFTA was ever launched.

When Ford has its Mexican plant up and running, do you really believe Ford will decrease its price to reflect the cheaper labor cost, which is why they are moving in the first place?

In your perfect world of free trade, why do you think our manufacturing has been moving out of the country?

Can you explain how that is a good thing?

And remember, Sundance and the Conservative Treehouse is anti-semitic, and probably Breitbart, and Trump and everyone who supports him is too!!! /sarc

Mark Levin's destroying his own career, just as Glenn Beck has. Payoffs and/or blackmail seem likely as the basis for their public derangement.

I’m a Trump supporter and don’t really listen to Levin, but Trump’s tariff thing IS a problem. Tariff’s do nothing to attack the ROOT CAUSE which is the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT (minimum wage, regulations, unions, and taxes) of businesses moving elsewhere. A tariff is a tax and China and Mexico don’t pay the tax, WE, THE AMERICAN CONSUMER PAY the tax in the form of forced higher prices. TARIFFS, LIKE INCOMES TAX AND INFLATION, DIRECTLY LOWER OUR STANDARD OF LIVING.

And how many confuse political borders, necessary for sovereignty, with economic borders which generally needs to be open for the operation of the free market economic which has always and will always brings wealth and prosperity.

It's perfectly possible to support a candidate while not agreeing with that candidate 100 percent.

I'm going to vote for Trump because Hillary would be far worse.

At the same time, I think that high protective tariffs are a horrible idea and I trust that either Trump will back off on this or that Congress will reject it.

...

““The Senate Conservatives Fund (PAC) purchasing massive quantities ($400,000) of Mark Levin’s books in exchange for favorable candidacy political opinion. Conveniently hidden by the radio host who avoids mentioning the financial conflict created,” the blog pointed out.

On Jan. 13, Ben Jacobs in an article published by the Daily Beast headlined “Pay to Play?” noted that Politico, in an article that now appears to have been scrubbed from Politico’s website, reported on how the GOP establishment seeks to buy Levin.

The Senate Conservatives Fund (SCF), a “conservative” fund founded by former Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina that backed Cruz in his Senate fight against Obamacare, spent $427,000 to buy copies of radio talk show host Mark Levin’s four-year-old book “Liberty or Tyranny” to distribute to donors – a purchase that should have earned Levin approximately $1 million in royalties.

Despite his many diatribes against Trump broadcast to his national radio audience, Levin hid the fact the son of his fiancé is a full-time staffer for Cruz.”

I’ve never understood the “cheaper is better argument” pertaining to trade. The elimination of jobs here leads to higher unemployment and lower wages for those still working.

What difference does the retail cost of products make if people have no money to purchase the products?

I don't know if it was "economically illiterate" or not, but it sure as heck enriched Massachusetts and Connecticut at the expense of Virginia farmers.

I tune to Levin, looking for his usual wisdom, and for the last several months, almost every time I do, he’s on an Anti-Trump rant. At first I listened and considered it. But Trump won with many valid ideas. So lately, I can’t reach for the dial fast enough.

Too bad. He (and Beck too at times) was a great thinker in the movement. Now he seems to have turned a blind eye to the world collapsing, to focus wrath on the future GOP nominee.

Great post!

It’s wishful thinking that Trump will realize all that. But, there’s a small amount of hope.

For sure, with Hillary, the collapse comes much, much sooner.
