‘Free Republic’ Now A Safe Space for Donald Trump Supporters [Jim's response at post 25]

On the right, we’ve grown to pride ourselves on our greater openness to debate and ideas, on having no need to toe a Politically Correct line or crawl into a “safe space” like pampered college kids who just can’t handle hearing from anyone who disagrees with them.

For myself, I am so personally dedicated to this ideal that I even perform the great personal sacrifice of reading the comments field beneath my articles.

Yet somehow I wasn’t surprised to see Donald Trump supporters, those swaggering tough guys, turn one of their favorite Internet forums into a safe space where they no longer need to encounter criticism or opposition. Earlier today, Free Republic proprietor Jim Robinson announced that the discussion board would no longer tolerate opposition to Trump’s candidacy.

I was going to do a comparison between those who've been included in your purge list, versus the donor pages, and after working on it a while, I realized it won't really work because your name uses their 'homepage' name, and the donor list uses the full freeper name (which can include punctuation, spaces and other stuff).

I can't imagine how difficult it must be to do some of the stuff that Free Republic does using nothing but perl considering what a freeper username can contain. Just dealing with spaces in the name is the kind of thing that gives me headaches when I'm dealing with manipulating raw formatted text.

Before you go, can you let me know where is the new site that FR’s Cruz people absconded to? You know, the 2ndDivisionVet types. I’m just curious, I wanted to go there and see if they are still holding out hope for a convention miracle or if they are considering 3rd party, or if some of them are hoping for a chance at VP.

I'm a '98er and a Cruzer and I care very seriously, sincerely and deeply, but not that much. I wish Jim Rob would set us up a parallel LostRepublic site or something for us to live out our exile together in philosophical purity. Our Trumpster Overlords would be welcome anytime so long as they don't ban us from our own site.

Anti-Catholic means a poster is making personal aspersions/attacks etc to or about an INDIVIDUAL Catholic here, and when that happens they are warned and then banned if they persist.

There are many Christians here that do believe (know) that they do NOT have to be in subjection to the Pope or be a member of Catholicism in order to be a valid Christian.

Thus they could be described as anti-Catholicism which is not verboten here at FR.

Proper etiquette is that you ping someone when you are talking about them, more important when the comment is not uplifting or polite.

And includes a false accusation and name calling.

Kind of petty IMO.

I was just pointing out how to be polite and use proper etiquette when posting.

Anyone that can be pinged can come to FR even if they are not signed up as a poster.

And they can search any name (even their own name when they were able to respond) to see what was posted to them.

I also think it is wrong to disparage someone who is not here anymore.

Leave that to the anti-freeper sites IMO
