The Muscovy ducks in the small lake near my home were disappearing.

Some of the residents found that they were being trapped and removed by the people who run a local oriental food restaurant.

The residents contacted local authorities but it turned out that is is perfectly legal to catch them and cart them off if they are not owned by someone because they are considered an invasive species.

Before the trapping began there were literally hundreds of Muscovy ducks living around the lake, now there are probably fewer than a dozen.

There is a rather upscale Chinese place I’ve eating at since at least 1975. The original owner was well respected and likely even feared in the community.

Somewhere in the late 70’s the health department found cat fried rice being served as pork fried rice. I kept eating there as I doubted they would do it again.

Walks, crawls, slithers, flies ... buried under ground.
My Pop told me his company was on patrol in Korea, and someone stepped in, up to his knee, a crock of winter kimchi.
Ever talk to a guy who just chowed down on kimchi? Some cover their mouths when they talk. The guy I talked to, his breath would knock a buzzard off a gut wagon.
Man, I just about passed out but kept smiling.

The man who raises the dogs in a cage will also have a pet dog or dogs that happily follow him as he brains the captive dogs for a restaurant and gobble the results of dressing them...their privileged status is temporary, however, as when guests arrive or festival time comes his "pet" dogs learn too late they are not companions but fatted calves. Never tried it. Heard it's a bit greasy.

I’m pretty picky about what I eat- it has to fit in my mouth

I have similar stories.

My Chinese wife used to want me to catch pigeons and squirrels on the UT Austin campus

A little greasy and a little stringy but damn tasty when cooked bulgogi style.

While stationed in Korea some of us got together and bought some. One of the guys GF’s cooked it up... The dog we bought was a Bull Terrier... At the time Spuds McKenzie was the ad for Budweiser... All day the running joke when served a dish we would joke... This Spud’s for you...

OK, we were drunk and it was funny at the time.

What is the big deal? Restaurants buy freshly killed livestock to butcher all the time. This one was just very fresh. I don’t like to watch animals getting butchered, and I just always hope they are killed humanely.

Ok, I’ve read the article 3 times, I even went to the link. I’m still not seeing the problem.

Were they serving the pork at their restaurant after butchering in said alley? I could see that being an issue, since it wasn’t done in a certified facility.

But if it was just for their own table, so what?

yes I tried a bit.

If I was really near starvation I guess I would have eaten it but it was not good.

Interesting. I don’t think I could ever eat anything too out of the ordinary...unless, like you said, near starvation, then all bets are off.

I ask her "what did your mom say?" and the answer was "she asked 'why are all these ducks walking around?'"

Back a few decades when America let in a bunch of the Viet Nam boat people, a lot of them seemed to settle on the west coast. I remember it being said that the stray dog problem in LA was solved virtually overnight about that same time. Just a coinky dink?

“What exactly was the complaint? Was he using an improper butchering technique?”

Probably violated some health regulation. Or assaulted someone’s delicate sensibilities.

Neh probably true. Same with cats/dogs,and doves, they loved dove meat. I had no problems with the Vietnamese food...BUT went to a "Filipino Luau" in Hawaii. Yeah I was drunk had a couple portions of the teriyaki beef. Next day the neighbors were posting signs of their two black labs missing. Nope I never told the neighbors and I didn't thank the Filipinos for fixing the barking problem.

I don’t see the problem as long as he cleans up after himself.
