Trump, GOP trying to come together as needs align (Time to Win!)

Donald Trump and Republican Party leaders are confronting an uncomfortable new reality: They may not like each other, but they may need each other.

That's forcing an awkward reckoning on both sides as GOP lawmakers struggle to make peace .... Trump's team seeks to bulk up its unconventional campaign with the party's organizational prowess.

... Trump's bare-bones campaign has glaring deficiencies the RNC is uniquely positioned to address.... has largely ignored collecting information on voters ... dispatched very few staff to battleground states ... no steps to build a fundraising network.

Trump told The Associated Press ... he would not rely on public financing, a decision that forces him to quickly assemble a donor network capable of raising the estimated $1 billion needed to run ...

"There are many ways that they could work together," said Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions, Trump's top ally on Capitol Hill. "It would be important that they have a good partnership in this election, maybe more than others."

Trump officials were briefed ... on the RNC's general election operation, which includes a multi-million dollar voter data operation backed by more than 200 paid staff in key states.

Discussions between the Trump campaign and party leaders will continue Thursday when the presumptive nominee treks to Capitol Hill for private meetings.

From the article: "Republican leaders in the Senate and at the RNC are urging the party's rank and file to unite behind the billionaire and turn their energy toward battling Democrat Hillary Clinton this fall."

Mitch McConnell stated: "We have a nominee, it looks like he may well be very competitive, and we want to win the White House," and

"We know that Hillary Clinton will be four more years of Barack Obama. I think that's going to, in the end, be enough to unify Republicans."

Don’t put too much stock in the campaign apparatus of the GOP. They’ve been getting clobbered election after election. Trump has been doing just fine on his shoestring campaign.

They seem to have all the right tools and apparatus, GOP has just been ineffective in the actual application.

He can not win a GE with a shoestring campaign, needs to redirect the GOP staff, assuming they allow this. I’m sure they will work it out, Trump Organization knows how to best utilize talent.

Trump's people are working advance of tomorrow's meeting. From a distance, it seems to me that Trump is setting the meeting agenda, and I speculate it is exactly along the lines you allude to. Figure out what the RNC has for resources, lay groundwork for coordination between the Trump campaign and the RNC. I don't see the meeting as spending much time, if any, on policy or platform. Said another way, whatever it is that is keeping Ryan from getting aboard, that won't be the subject of the meeting. Trump doesn't care as much about Ryan's support as he does about getting the job done.

Trump can’t win a primary campaign with a shoestring organization! It takes modeling and a multi-state ground game. Cory and Hope are just not enough.

Too bad Cruz’s big donor with the innovative GOTV investment has switched to Hillary. But here’s an article that reminds us why: his hedge fund is looking to buy itself out of a $6B tax bill. The article focuses on Hill being the sellout for taking his money, but the very same applies to Cruz. And, quite apparently, not to Trump:

Did you mean “general election” instead of “primary”? Thanks.

Agreed. And all that voter data is available from the supervisor of elections in every county. The real work is done by the volunteers who give their time, effort, gas money and other donations to the persons of their choice. We are the strength of Donald Trump’s campaign, not the Republican Party who stands to be a winner against their will.

Yes, and Trump will continue to do just fine, but he would be crazy not to take advantage of the Republican party apparatus. Notice I said “take advantage of”, which I mean in the literal sense. In other words “USE” them.

Do you really think Trump is going to turn over his campaign to the establishment?

The GOPe have resigned themselves to the fact that they have FAILED to stop Trump. Their idea of “if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em”, is join ‘em BUT control ‘em. That is where they again will FAIL. They are so arrogant, that they think “they” are still in control of the party. LOL! Are they gonna be surprised.

GO TRUMP!

re: the campaign apparatus of the GOP

It might work just fine if competent people know what to do with the data.

He must take charge of their apparatus and utilize their staff and data.

They likely have some good talent and they would be useful to work in tandem with HIS people. GOP has assets to allot to battleground states. It just all needs to be directed the right way so that the effort and money is not wasted.

FWIW, I did some phone calling for Romney. It was at the headquarters just a few miles from Cleveland city limits. NO effort was made to identify potential voters within city boundaries. When I tried to suggest it to the horrific staff, their noses were really up in the air and they couldn't be bothered. I'm thinking it's the 47% thing.

And look what happened this time around. West Virginia, (mostly lower 47% voters) gave Trump one of his most massive and impressive victories. Isn't that ABSOLUTE PROOF that Romney deliberately threw the election, by not campaigning to voters who want to better themselves?

It’s all about their RICE BOWL.
All those RINOs have to have their $$$$RICE $$$$bowl or DIE!

Trump is breaking their RICE BOWL and they must stop him or lose their income.

Elections? To hell with that! Gotta have the rice bowl!

Each situation will be as unique as the operatives that they send.
My experience with GOP staff has been very positive in two different states.

1. GOP #1: Well seasoned long term campaigner ran a smooth campaign, flexible, worked hard. She was very efficient and pleasant, no drama.

2. GOP #2: An incompetent and inexperienced daughter of someone very special. She was spending most of the time decorating the office!! No lists, no phone numbers, no phones, no copiers, nothing. This is in a county with millions of voters. Kept the office closed on Sundays. She was using volunteers for voter’s registration drives in areas resulting in signing up hundreds of DEMOCRATS. I swear it was so bad, we thought she must have been a RAT-plant.

After many complaints in early October through the state party chair, GOP sent a young man. This long-haired dude turned the entire campaign around to a win. He was a highly perceptive awesome campaigner. He worked round the clock and was flexible. Most importantly, he came with a generous budget and was able to hire several more people and direct them accordingly. He was a godsend. We signed letters of recommendation for him; he had a bright future ahead.

The Trump campaign needs to make no assumptions. And take nothing for granted. They must evaluate each of the 200 GOP operatives and make sure they are qualified, competent and LOYAL to him. That is my advice. (And assume GOP has back-ups to replace the occasional dud.)

No. I meant primary. Trump can’t possibly win the primary the way he did. Who are you going to believe? The pundits or your lying eyes?
