Confronted with the bloodiest weekend in Chicago since being named police superintendent six weeks ago, Eddie Johnson on Monday called the gun violence "completely unacceptable" and said the dozens of shootings highlight "the uphill battle" confronting police.
More than 50 people were shot, eight fatally, between Friday afternoon and early Monday, the city's most violent weekend since the end of September, according to a Tribune analysis.
The tally included a 3 1/2-hour period early Saturday when one man was killed and 14 others were wounded — the equivalent of someone being shot every 14 minutes.
Chicago is already closing in on 200 homicides as the city endures its worst violence since the late 1990s. At this rate, the city is on pace to top 500 homicides for the year for only the second time since 2008.

I believe the record will show gun violence in Chicago is a weekly occurrence in Chicago. It is also a matter of record the media has little to say about it.
The violence in Chicago is simply the expression of third world values and culture. The same type of violence occurs daily in sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, Central America, and the gang controlled areas of Mexico.
The progressive elites of our society, who should be supplying real leadership, are instead encouraging, subsidizing, institutionalizing and celebrating the behavior. The latest progressive initiative, decriminalizing many crimes and releasing tens of thousands of felons from prisons, only adds fuel to the flames destroying our civilization.
Today the elites can shed false tears over the barbarism while enjoying the good life inside their guarded gated communities and penthouse apartments. Those who consider themselves intellectually superior continue to ignore the lessons of history. In every civilization when barbarism is allowed to gain a foothold, the savages eventually turn on the elites and breach the walls of the palaces. Those inside the walls eventually experience full the consequences of their failures.
I can not comprehend living any place where I could not carry.
I've been carrying since the 70s and feel nekked without at least one little friend with me. The area where I live is fairly safe, and we intend to keep it that way.

Criminals break laws, only the law-abiding actually follow them. Liberals don't give a flying rip about public safety - they want an excuse to disarm the populace. Modern liberalism really has fascist roots. They want power and control. You want freedom and liberty? Say the freedom to choose not to bake a cake for someone? Unacceptable, liberals want the power to force you to. Fascists, the vast multitude of which can't even see it. The irony is, they think they are enlightened when just the opposite is true.
You watch, the predictable and unavoidable failure of strict "gun control" laws in Chicago won't be blamed on their fundamentally flawed premise. No, they will start floating the notion that what is needed is total disarmament and confiscation. That if there simply were not guns around in law abiding citizens' hands, there wouldn't be guns for the criminals to steal and use. I know, naive to the point of being idiotic. But true safety and reduction of gun violence isn't their goal - disarmament is. So they will float this notion.
