House Speaker Paul Ryan opened the door Monday to stepping down as Republican convention chairman if asked by presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump, whom Ryan has declined to endorse.
Ryan first made the comments during a meeting with Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reporters.
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel columnist Christian Schneider tweeted: “.@SpeakerRyan on whether he'd step down as convention chair if Trump asks: I'll do whatever he asks me to do.”
Asked about the reported comments, a spokeswoman for Ryan confirmed to Fox News: “That is his position, yes.”

He isn't caving. this is a calculated move directed by the donors to undermine Trump at the convention, and keep the "dream alive" of deposing him.

75% of the GOP voting base rejected your boy Cruz. Get over the butthurt and get on the Trump train. Trump is sending exactly the right message to the electorate. He does not need to change anything. My question is this— What issue do they disagree with that Trump espouses now and is not “conservative”. Name one.

I have a fantasy in which Ryan loses his primary bid and has to embarrass himself as the GOP Convention Chair. That would be great.
