President Barack Obama on Friday said presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has a "long record that needs to be examined" and insisted that the race for the White House is "not a reality show."
"I think I just want to emphasize the degree to which we are in serious times and this is a really serious job. This is not entertainment, this is not a reality show. This is a contest for the presidency of the United States," Obama told reporters in his first public comments about since Trump's GOP rivals ended their presidential campaigns.
Obama also said the media needs to play a role in vetting the candidates' policies and not focus on the "circus."
"If they take a position on international issues that could threaten war, or has the potential of upending our critical relationships with other countries, or would potentially break the financial system, that needs to be reported on," Obama said in the White House briefing room.
Obama has previously been critical of Trump's foreign policy statements, saying they show the former reality television star doesn't know much about "the world generally."
"There is no doubt that when asked his reaction to House Speaker Paul Ryan's saying he is not yet ready to back Trump.
This is coming from the same guy that sealed all his records. As matter of fact he fought it in court from being released.
For the record I don’t ever recall an active Presdent in his second term going after another candidate running for office. Normally, they finish their term and move on.
This is validation that Trump is the real deal.

I am trying to learn how to have confidence in my blackness. Pretty hard to do for a white dude, but I am trying.....
After all, he is president of all of us, and I am sure he wouldn't be speaking to just one little group.
Maybe they will find he was born in the USA and that would disqualify him.

The argument for Obama being qualified to be president in 2008 was that he managed a campaign capable of winning. By such an argument, Genghis Khan and Alexander the Great showed they were qualified to be emperor based on their conquests. But campaigning is not the same thing as governing.
Regarding Trump, his qualification is that he has been a successful businessman. This has involved managing far-flung enterprises and dealing with multiple constituencies. This is comparable or surpasses prior executive experiences of generals and governors, although the truth is nothing compares to being President of the United States.
With regard to managing a campaign, Trump has written an entire new book for winning a major party nomination. This is already an historical election. Every American should feel good that a person - admittedly with a huge bank account and well-established as a celebrity - can come from outside the system and win.
(Trump himself disproves that the system is rigged.)
Obama, by refusing to recognize the obvious qualifications of Trump, only reveals that he is so partisan and prejudiced, that he is incapable of rendering a valid opinion of what is going on. Obama only shows that he is a little man, incapable of rising above petty politics. You can disagree with Trump on the issues and/or disapprove of Trump’s vulgar ways, but you have to give the man credit for his accomplishments.
Remember, liberal project. Obama is afraid Trump will examine his citizenship.
What NBC didn’t report: Then Obama was asked about Trump’s Twitter picture with a Taco Bowl and he lost it, the Taco Bowl becoming the following weekend’s talking point for Biden.
Actually I’m okay with him campaigning against Trump. It really gives me the creeps when he looks intently at the camera and says that Trump will not be president. It’s like he knows what’s going on undercover. But now he seems a bit desperate, like Jareth in the classic movie, The Labyrinth when he says, “She should have not gotten this far.”
I would love to see Trump Tweet ‘You can examine mine if I can examine yours’!
