One of the major planks in Donald Trump’s campaign platform, if not the top priority, has been a stalwart insistence that voluntary commerce and trade with other countries weakens America’s economy and costs American jobs. Moreover, he insists that he knows best how to manage it all in the best interests of America. Indeed, Trump has not only proposed slapping a 45 percent tariff on all goods made in China, and massive tariffs on other countries like Japan and Mexico, but he repeatedly declares that he will personally impose punitive taxes on Ford Motor Company if it follows through with plans to build a manufacturing plant in Mexico. He has also threatened punitive penalties against Apple Inc. if it continues making iPhones in China. A globalist does not want any kind of trade restrictions and especially doesn't want tariffs. Calling Trump a globalist is weaselly attempt at winning an argument by redefining terms. Trump is participating in the global economy. But he is not a globalist. He thinks nations have every right to tariff and protect their markets as they see fit.

good grief, levin. i’m still a great admirer of your past work on conservatism. come on now, it’s time to eat some humble pie and try to understand that our Lord may be using trump in some historic fashion against the uniparty that ails all of us. seriously, have you fought the gopes all these years just to join them now? are you sure your old boss RR would be with you against trump?
on balance, the evidence now is such that trump is a true uniparty outsider. that’s a good thing. trump is attracting some good people like sen. sessions, palin, etc. what he’s doing and saying so far is really very good. he’s proven himself as a campaigner. what he’ll actually do as pres; no one really knows, including you, but come on now, get a grip. we all know what hillary or bernie will do.
