Mitt Romney Takes Meeting About Third- Party Run
Newser ^ | May 7, 2016 | Michael Harthorne

Posted on 05/07/2016 4:19:11 PM PDT by Salman

(Newser) – Mitt Romney and William Kristol met privately "over glasses of water" Thursday to discuss running a third-party candidate and the possibility that candidate might be Romney himself, the Washington Post reports. Kristol, a conservative commentator and editor of the Weekly Standard, has been a major part of the #NeverTrump movement, according to Time. “[Romney] came pretty close to being elected president, so I thought he may consider doing it, especially since he has been very forthright in explaining why Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton should not be president of the United States,” Kristol tells the Post. Romney announced this week that he won't be supporting Trump for president.

The Washington Examiner reports Romney sounded much like an independent candidate during an awards gala for American Friends of the Hebrew University this week. "I wish we had better choices, and I keep hoping that somehow things will get better, and I just don't see an easy answer from where we are," Romney said during the event. But if Romney won't run—and he's said recently he won't—Kristol still wants his support for an eventual third-party candidate. Kristol says he has a list of potential candidates he's working on, and he tells CNN that Romney has agreed to help if they're able to find someone to run.

These bastards would rather turn the keys to the White House over to Hillary than turn the keys to the GOP over to Trump.

I say stuff Mitt-Witt into a dog carrier, strap him to the top of a station wagon, and let Kristol drive him back to Detroit Michigan where he came from. Leave the wagon parked in the worst part of town.

After losing to Clinton, Mittens could go back home and write a book about how he lost to both 0bama and Clinton. What a man!!

Run Romney Run!

The more they do this stuff, the more they are doing Trump's work for him. There is no better case for Trump than the establishment's disdain and fear.

And frankly Republican hate for Trump makes it easier for Dems to overcome their cognitive dissonance at voting for Trump - they know he's right but they just can't vote for this clown ... unless ... They can reason 'enemy of my enemy' as an excuse to themselves.

Dems - pitiful furry little animals, but very destructive.

Because he did so well the last time /DrippingSarc

The ONLY reason he would do that is to Perot the election over to Hillary and maintain the status quo. That is treasonous to me.

The last time ANY third party made a significant impact was in 1968 when the American
Independent Party won 5 southern states:

* Some interesting trivia: Governor George Wallace actually served under General Curtis LeMay during World
War II, Wallace was flying in B-29's over Japan.

*In the Alabama election for Governor in 1958, Wallace was amazingly endorsed by the NAACP, while his
opponent (who won, John Patterson), was endorsed by the Ku Klux Klan.

Ann Romney stopped by the Kilmeade & Friends studio to talk about her new book, “In This Together: My Story”, her struggle with MS, the 2016 GOP race and whether her husband will get into the GOP race.

NO...NO...a thousand times NO!!

errr...MAYBE??

Just pointing out that this wouldn’t be the first time the GOPe ran someone as a third party entry when they did not get their way.

The joke ended up being on them them when exit polling determined that Anderson pulled more votes from Carter than Reagan. :)

Gee....after Mittens lost the 2012 election, he supposedly said he didn’t really want to be President after all. Who knew?

I wonder if Trump records all his meetings at Trump tower. If so he might have some serious things to hold over Romney who BEGGED for his blessing and money.

I think the whole point of this third party thing is to prevent a Trump win. They won’t bother with deep red states; they will run in purple states to make sure the electoral votes go to Hillary; and those blue states where it is easy to get on the ballot, in the hopes of moving those electoral votes to Hillary as well. I do not think it will work. Kristol and Romney totally misunderstands the mood of the electorate.

If he runs, he’ll be responsible for ending the republic...that said I’d like to see him bankrupted and beaten in the street.

[Romney] came pretty close to being elected president, so I thought he may consider doing it,

Five million popular votes short and 126 electoral votes short is pretty close?

This is BS. If he couldn't be effective as a party nominee, how he be effective as a third party camdidate.

It's so transparent that there's no way he will gain traction.
