Donald Trump Creates Widespread Confusion Telling West Virginia Voters to “Stay Home”

Candidate Donald Trump scored what appears to be an ‘own goal’ against his candidacy earlier this evening when he told supporters at a campaign rally in West Virginia not to vote for him.

“Now what I want you to do is save your vote,” Trump told the crowd in Charleston, West Virginia. “You know, you don’t have to vote anymore. Save your vote for the general election, OK? Forget this one, the primary is gone.” (link)

Immediately social media erupted with people trying to figure out what’s going on. Two hours later the confusion has only amplified exponentially as no-one associated with the Trump campaign is trying to clear up the mixed-messaging.

The West Virginia offices of the campaign are in a stunned state of panic and internal confusion. No up-stream national Trump campaign officials are making any efforts to clarify the matter, and the campaign workers in West Virginia are unable to explain what’s going on.

Do West Virginians need to vote next Tuesday?

Why would Donald Trump tell mountaineers to stay home?

No-one is quite sure?

There are instructions on the Trump Website including a voter aid card (pictured below) outlining who to vote for.

However, with the candidate announcing to a massive (28,000) West Virginia audience their votes are no longer needed, there is understandable confusion.

This type of horrible messaging, and even worse communications, does not make the Trump organizational camp look good or capable of running a national campaign. It certainly feeds into a media narrative of ineptitude on the vary basics of campaign 101.

Do voters need to vote?

Was this a subliminal message to tell voters to support Bernie Sanders?

What the heck was Donald Trump talking about?

It was NOT a “piddling mistake” in WV.

We have a REAL election on May 10 as well as primaries, so telling people to “stay home” is not so “piddling”

After all, I’m constantly reminded here on FR about how dumb and stupid us Mountaineers are and we just might take him at his word being as how we can’t see the nuance.

In the greater scheme of things, this might even shore up voting in primaries even though we should expect a dropoff regardless [without any competition left].

This isn't over in spite of what we believe

These folks disgust me. Since George 1, we've been told to vote for "the lesser of two evils". Then we realized that in many ways there was nothing "lesser" about their evil. Then we were told that the choices were made because voters didn't get involved in time. Well, thanks to Trump and Sanders, voters got involved in time. Now they're deep in their delusions that the US is about them and their place in global magnificence. If we can't be compliant voting fodder, we must be ignored.

They don't even care that not one, but two cities could go up in flames if nominations are stolen. They're ignoring history. It's rather unusual that elites that ruin countries have the opportunity to be voted out when they destroy the voting rights, freedom, and economic well being of their people. The alternative wouldn't be pretty.

Trump should be running up the score now, like he so effectively did in RI and CT. Otherwise, the backstabbers will exploit any opening.

When those words were heard, we were shocked. Granted, this primary has been like no other before, but the fact he announced this was concerning. Especially with the reports yesterday of Sen Ted still attempting to steal delegates. After last cycle and Mitt dropping out of the race before election This would be the time to keep on track and build up steam in stature and organization. The more heads in your team, the larger your team will be, the more power it would render. That Mr. T is still on the campaign trail says a great deal about him and Paul Manafort. Paul would know the tricks of the trade and we must wonder what he thought of that statement and what he said to Mr. Trump after the fact.
