Candidate Donald Trump scored what appears to be an ‘own goal’ against his candidacy earlier this evening when he told supporters at a campaign rally in West Virginia not to vote for him.
Now what I want you to do is save your vote, Trump told the crowd in Charleston, West Virginia. You know, you dont have to vote anymore. Save your vote for the general election, OK? Forget this one, the primary is gone. (link)
Immediately social media erupted with people trying to figure out what’s going on. Two hours later the confusion has only amplified exponentially as no-one associated with the Trump campaign is trying to clear up the mixed-messaging.
The West Virginia offices of the campaign are in a stunned state of panic and internal confusion. No up-stream national Trump campaign officials are making any efforts to clarify the matter, and the campaign workers in West Virginia are unable to explain what’s going on.
Do West Virginians need to vote next Tuesday?
Why would Donald Trump tell mountaineers to stay home?
No-one is quite sure?
There are instructions on the Trump Website including a voter aid card (pictured below) outlining who to vote for.
However, with the candidate announcing to a massive (28,000) West Virginia audience their votes are no longer needed, there is understandable confusion.
This type of horrible messaging, and even worse communications, does not make the Trump organizational camp look good or capable of running a national campaign. It certainly feeds into a media narrative of ineptitude on the vary basics of campaign 101.
Do voters need to vote?
Was this a subliminal message to tell voters to support Bernie Sanders?
What the heck was Donald Trump talking about?
…Stay tuned, I guess…
Update 11:19pm: Donald Trump Tweets:
Looks like West Virginia does need to vote next Tuesday after all.

Trump can do or say anything he wants and everybody just makes excuses. That is how you win elections.
You get a cultist following that covers your backside every time you fill your pants with BS.

Your guy QUIT, it's time for you to STFU.Two things:
1. Cruz didn't quit, he lost...Big difference
2. Are you now the owner to tell people to STFU ?
Just wondering?

Either way, why confuse people who support him?I think what he said was a dumb mistake, okay? I accept that smart people at times say and do dumb things. What I'm saying is better the unfiltered Trump than the typical politician who doesn't even know what his speech writers hand him, but can read it well.

Saw in a FR post yesterday that WV GOP delegates are bound to vote for “the presumptive nominee”. If true, the RNC head has declared DJT as that presumptive nominee.
Hope to learn more today.
Meantime, don’t worry; be happy.

Cruz didn’t quit? So he will be campaigning in CA, NJ, WVA, etc? Really?
And here I thought Cruz “suspended” aka “quit” campaigning.
Silly me.

This only shows how the press is a bunch of retards.
Trying to portray Trump supporters as a bunch of mindless robots marching around under orders from the secret bunker.

and yet somehow he beat the pants off the best and brightest the GOP had to offer, insiders and outsiders alike...
if he’s stupid, what does that say about the rest of the party?

Maybe he’ll pardon you from being a terminal dipstick.

Code for vote Bernie? Operation Chaos

I bet all the Republicans that are on the Ballot in West Virginia running for other positions just love Trump now for being such a team player.

Trump is just having fun with this. Of course the West Virginian Trump supporters are going to vote for him and he’ll win by at least 70 per cent of the vote.
Then Trump will be able to say “look, I told them to stay home and I still won in a landslide.”
Trump knows exactly what he’s doing and he’ll probably get even more votes out of it because people that weren’t going to vote, thinking he had it in the bag,Neil now make an effort to get out there to make up for the folks who are “staying home.”
Trump is a master dealing with the media. There’s a rhyme and reason behind this.
To: onyx
He again gets the media to hyperventilate over nonsense, and give him free coverage that basically serves to make all of his “outrageous” statements just part of the background noise, feeds the perception that the establishment and their media lapdogs are out to get him, and moves him up again in the polls.

Thanks for the clarification. That stunned me to hear last night, but I think he just meant to communicate to people that their primary wasn’t as important anymore, now that everyone else has dropped out, and that the REAL important vote was in November. He just put it very, very, badly.
And, yes, his campaign should have clarified - immediately.

“If true, the RNC head has declared DJT as that presumptive nominee.”
Huh? Yes, he did. Reince Priebus said Tuesday night that Trump is now the presumptive nominee and we should all get behind him.
If what you’re saying is true, maybe Trump was right after all and the votes of the people in the audience there really don’t matter, because he’ll get all the WV delegates anyway.
Can someone clarify?

He forgot the sarcasm tag. That's about the size of it. We're in an age so humorless, sarcasm goes right over most.
