On Wednesday morning, not even 24 hours after Donald Trump effectively clinched the Republican nomination, Paul Ryan convened his top advisers for a call. With Congress out of session, Ryan was bouncing between multiple states, raising the piles of money needed to keep House Republicans in the majority.
But Donald Trump was on his mind. The speaker could not — at least at this point — support him. And he wanted to talk through how to proceed.
Ryan never expected Trump to lock up the nomination so quickly. He didn't think Texas Sen. Ted Cruz would drop out of the race in May. In fact, Ryan's orbit was preparing for a contested convention in Cleveland, where he is slated to serve as chairman, effectively the emcee of the Trump coronation.
The decision was made quickly. The next day, he would go on CNN and make it official, in no uncertain terms.
“I think what a lot of Republicans want to see is that we have a standard-bearer that bears our standards,” he told Jake Tapper in the bombshell interview that was taped shortly before it aired on Thursday afternoon.
“I think conservatives want to know, does he share our values and our principles on limited government, the proper role of the executive, adherence to the Constitution?” Ryan added. “There are lots of questions that conservatives, I think, are gonna want answers to, myself included. I want to be a part of this unifying process. I want to help to unify this party.”

Congress is extortion central and Ryan has unclean hands. If you take away lifetime pension benefits for all elected officials, you will make American Great Again.
It will be fun to watch talking heads popping and exploding on TV. Glen Beck is already exploding on TV AND radio. Trump is not the issue - we are in a global war and refuse to fight - that is the issue.
They can still make big $$ in the private sector after Congress. We need to restore patronage to DC again and rid the country of the hundreds of thousands of leftist (big)gubmint workers with their lifetime sinecures. The Republicans come in with their people for 4-8 years and out, ditto the Democrats.

If Ryan thinks he can take on Trump and emerge the winner, he’ll want to re-assess that.
Umm ... actually I disagree. You actually need strong oversight and laws to ensure they don’t take funds and kickbacks from lobbyists etc.
CNN’s slugs were on in the early hours, pounding the non-story to death — Gergen even said the nonsense that “Trump needs Ryan more than Ryan needs Trump”. The fact is, Ryan’s got serious challenges ahead, with Paul Nehlen fighting him for the nomination, and while he’ll *probably* beat whatever Demwit he faces in the fall, he may not survive this phase.
Trump doesn’t need Ryan now, and won’t need him in the fall — it is clearly the other way around.

It's not only Ryan who needs to be Cantorized. If a Rep doesn't at the very least denounce voting for him, they're USELESS OR WORSE for the cause of liberty!
How can Trump be an influence peddler? He has no influence in government. Only those with influence within the government can peddle that influence.
Influence buyer? OK.
And exactly what has Ryan done to uphold those principles?

A lot of people, in and out of Congress, toss the word Conservative around like a rag doll. Most have no idea what Conservative or Conservative values mean. Or, if they have any idea of what they’re saying (I know, that’s a stretch for a lot of them), they are lying.
If Ryan wants to talk Conservative, then act like one.
Well, you put in one short paragraph the essence of this whole thing. No one gives Trump credit.
He won a tough primary handily, and he’s now talking about unity, and raising money for the party, and getting people elected. Then you have Ryan playing his game.
Fact is, when it comes down to it, Ryan and the rest have no bargaining power. They can’t get Romney or the Bushes or any of the others to join hands...so they’ll see if they can extract some things from Trump.
That’s fine, Trump will play the game. He will be the good Indian. He needs a senate and house to get things done. He knows that. He’ll be all to glad to be the leader we need.
When he starts to announce his cabinet, the heads are really going to explode. Rudy, Christie, etc etc.
