(AP) – The Rolling Stones have asked presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump to stop playing their songs at his campaign events.

In a statement Wednesday, the rock band said they have not given permission to the Trump campaign to use their songs and “have requested that they cease all use immediately.”

A Trump campaign spokeswoman didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment or say whether they had a license to play their songs.

If he’s paid the licensing fee, they can go screw themselves. And if the licensing agency tries to stop Trump, he can sue them and the Stones.

They sold their rights.

Anyone who pays the fee is free to use it.

Why sure it was. (The song was intended first for for the WWF’s U.S. express but they left McMahon so he then designated it to The Hulkster’s entrances). I it fits Trumper, he could use it, (if he liked it), also unless there was some legal reason he couldn’t. Heck, a LOT of tunes will work huh?!

“Since he pays the licensing fee, they actually do not have a say.”

I remember reading this same thing at Ace of Spades recently (but not like super recently but it was about this same issue).

So, how does it work, you’re the artist and you say “ok, you can use my recording as long as you pay this fee to ASCAP who will send it to me an whoever else gets a piece of it” and at that point ANYONE who pays the money can legally use your song?

Well, there certainly is a lot of kickass Made-in-America music to pick from, no need to import anything.

We invented Jazz, Swing, Blues, Rock-n-roll, Rock, Cajun, Zydeco, Country etc.....and all that lesser crap too.

Maybe he should threaten to put a 35% tax on Stones tickets.

I'm not a lawyer but I believe that if Trump pays the applicable BMI or ASCAP fees for public performance, he is licensed to play the music. Maybe there's an exception for political events but I assume Trump's lawyers would be on top of that.

I thought Trump was ‘sharp’..

Should have let Cruz be introduced first, then Trump and have them play ‘Born in the USA’ during Trumps intro.

I know he didn’t need it but would have had people choking on their latte

Why not use these songs? They're far better than anything put out by the Rolling Stones. Or since he's the last man standing,

Politics used to mean a brass band playing Sousa marches. Or “Happy Days Are Here Again.” (Always too fast.)

One of my favorite versions:

Happy Days are Here Again--Charles King

However, since the Democrats are always using it, perhaps the Republicans should use this one:

Cheer Up! Good Times are Coming!--Phil Spitalny & His Orchestra
