Fox News town hall: Trump blasts Cruz-Fiorina ticket roll-out as ‘waste of time’

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump, at a Fox News-hosted town hall in Indianapolis, on Wednesday blasted rival Ted Cruz’s decision to announce a running mate even though he’s losing the nomination race – calling it a “waste of time.”

The billionaire businessman responded to Cruz’s campaign curveball, while also elaborating on a foreign policy speech he delivered earlier in the day, at the forum hosted by Greta Van Susteren.

“I think it’s really a waste of time, honestly,” Trump said of Cruz’s decision to name former presidential candidate and ex-HP CEO Carly Fiorina as his VP pick. Of the race, Trump said, “It should be over.”

Cruz earlier acknowledged it was “unusual” to name a VP choice so early, but defended the decision. He claimed “nobody is getting to 1,237 delegates,” the number needed to clinch the nomination, and voters should “know what [they] will get.”

After Trump swept five states across the Northeast on Tuesday, the three remaining GOP candidates are looking next to Indiana’s primary on May 3 as a pivotal point in the race – one that can show whether Trump turns his winning streak into irreversible momentum, or whether Cruz and John Kasich still have a shot at preventing him from clinching the nomination before July.

But Trump cast Cruz’s ticket roll-out Wednesday as a bid to distract from bad headlines, calling it “awfully early” for such an announcement.

“You have to first get the nomination. … He has zero chance,” he said.

Trump declined to go into detail about his own potential running mate choices. “I have a lot of great people. I just don’t like to talk about it right now,” he said.

On a positive note, one can assume all of these shenanigans eliminate any consideration of Cruz, KSick, or Fiorina for VP.

The reasons for the announcement are obvious. Cruz had a disastrous Tuesday night. He needed something to knock that off the news so he launched this Hail Mary. But now instead of talking about his shellacking on Tuesday they’re talking about his desperate act of Wednesday. Not sure it’s much of an improvement.

It’s difficult to like Cruz these days, he falls way short of conservative expectations. However, I am sorry to see someone who was once respected, self-destruct on the national stage before his family, supporters, and Texans. Ted has no awareness or mirror of how he is being perceived.

Most thought he would not choose Fiorina because she is a terrible choice and that her presence would not boost his campaign. It makes Ted appear desperate. To announce his choice now — to try to get more delegates— seems so lame, especially when neither one of them is very popular.

One must wonder if Cruz’s belief in his own “anointing” plays a role with this decision since “Ted is carrying out God’s will.” Even though he has no path to victory by voting in the final ten states, Cruz prays he emerges victorious. Ted must feel driven to reverse the will of ten million voters and 28 states and 1,000 delegates. He perceives the will of God as him conquering against great odds in a victorious fight to lead the republican party. All the while, ignoring the constitution requirements that disqualify him for the office of the presidency.

It’s understandable to realize that Ted wants the presidency. However, it is incomprehensible to watch him sabotaging his reputation, public trust, career, and dignity in the process. Something is wrong with his struggle to win. Something is wrong with Ted. He has not behaved like a man of conservative principles, not at all. He has been corrupted by DC and globalist overseers, but kept it hidden.

Ted is a gross disappointment and an embarrassment that marginalizes the conservative wing of the republican party.

Cruz is done and this latest panderfest is proof - he’s flailing with his eyes scrunched shut so he doesn’t have to look at the reality. He’s toast Jim.....

This could be the dumbest move in the history of GOP presidential primaries. Since Cruz has as much chance of getting the nomination as I do, I select Sarah Palin as my running mate.

After Cruz is trounced in Indiana, I suspect he’ll announce his Secretaries of State and Defense.

The announcement of a VP running mate was definitely premature, and it only ends up hardening some attitudes and foreclosing various possibilities. At best it was still another “Hail Mary” flung into the air on behalf of the Cruz team, and there is not much possibility of even slowing down the inevitability of the coming majority for The Donald.

It is not surprising that the Cruz campaign would resort to such a tactic when they had momentary possession of the ball. What is surprising is that they ever had possession at all.

Marco would you be my VP?...NO! Scott Walker would you...NO! Jeb would...NO! Carly would you...If the price is right.

Senator Cruz will release the main points of his Inaugural Address next Monday night on the eve of the Indiana primary.

Yes, it certainly should be. And this ever present harping about Trump having to demonstrate something called “irrepressible momentum” is horsesh!t, frankly.

If winning 5 northeastern states, plus virtually ALL of the “Solid South” doesn’t clearly demonstrate “irrepressible momentum” what would Indiana do? Just another nail in the Cruz coffin that is half covered with dirt already.

EVERY county in all 5 of those recent most states clearly went for Trump, and Cruz-Fiorina and their facilitators want Trump to ‘demonstrate’ some more?

The only other fanaticism I know of that exists still in this world at this level is Islamic Jihadism. Fancy that.

No, he can’t. Don’t you remember he has already sworn into office by Glenn Beck - onstage, in blue jeans and a jacket.

Absolutely. He has more delegates than Romney did. Fiorina is one of the most obnoxious people in politics. She has a long record of failure and one of tge most aweful speaking voices since Linda Graham. She needs emergency adenoid surgery.

The reasons for the announcement are obvious. Carly's got the goods on Ted.

Carly is Teds GOPe handler. He will not be allowed to drop out. There is going to be a convention fight.
