North Carolina Restroom Law Becomes a Central Election Issue
New York Times ^ | April 25, 2016 | RICHARD FAUSSET

HIGH POINT, N.C. — Parrish Clodfelter, a 79-year-old retiree who lives on a central North Carolina farm, professes opinions about transgender people that might get him fired if he worked for a multinational corporation, though for many here, they constitute simple country wisdom.

“A man wants to change to a woman, he’s got a mental problem,” Mr. Clodfelter said on Wednesday over lunch at Spiro’s Family Restaurant, where posters by the door advertised classes on carrying concealed weapons and a “Hillbilly Sunday” Pentecostal church service.

But Mr. Clodfelter has a different kind of problem. As a longtime Republican, he wants to support Pat McCrory, North Carolina’s Republican governor, in his re-election bid. At the same time, Mr. Clodfelter is worried about the boycotts and lost jobs resulting from the law the governor signed in March that limits transgender bathroom access and eliminates antidiscrimination protections for gay and transgender people.

If the backlash continues, Mr. Clodfelter said, he will consider voting for Mr. McCrory’s Democratic opponent, Roy Cooper, who supports the law’s repeal.

“I’m afraid if they don’t change it,” he said, “it’ll hurt the state.”

Even before the law tapped into a national debate about transgender rights, privacy and political correctness, North Carolina, the rare Southern state that is evenly split between liberals and conservatives, was considered to be up for grabs in the November presidential race, particularly if Donald J. Trump tops the Republican ticket.

Now the law, and the backlash against it, have introduced a different kind of volatile energy to state politics here, roiling a governor’s race that could be the nation’s most competitive. It is also affecting other crucial contests, including that of Senator Richard Burr, who hopes to fend off a vigorous Democratic challenge from Deborah K. Ross, [former state director of the ACLU].

This crap appears to be insanity. It is, but with two purposes.
1. To trap normal people who state facts according to human nature, and to destroy them.
2. To enable mentally unstable people to feel good about their newfound “gender identity” by going into the bathroom marked with their current “gender identity.”

“I can’t believe that the right of perverts to pee in ladies toilets is a “campaign issue.” America has become the home of retardism. What a sewer.”

Sad, isn’t it? Keep the sheeple distracted over the so called ‘rights’ of a minuscule minority.

It should be up to the states to decide this stuff.

It shouldn't even be a state issue, much less a Federal one. Establishments should operate their bathrooms as they see fit for their operation.

Why do Republicans always get suckered into these sorts of no-win issues at election time?

Exactly.

Right where it belongs, at the state level.

Way beneath the president, and it just lends to more federal oversight.

A distraction for the presidential campaign.

Ok you make the law XYs are banned from XX bathrooms. How do you identify the XYs dressed as XXs? Then, once they are identified in the wrong bathroom, who reports it? And who is it reported to? Then when that entity comes how do they identify the alleged XY to be in the XX bathroom as an XY??

If an XY dressed as an XX goes in the XY bathroom you have another set of problems.

As long as XYs aren’t peeing in sinks in the XX bathroom or XXs aren’t sitting in the urinals in XY bathrooms how does anyone know??

This issue should have been left alone by state legislatures. The number of “transgendered” people is minuscule and to discard societal norms for a few who have “issues” was a big mistake.

“Honestly, I hope the Presidential candidates just leave this alone.”

Trump played this the smart way (I hope). Just say “I really don’t care” to shut them up. We have bigger fish to fry. I kind of hope Cruz does the same. I’m not saying to forget about social issues (keep pushing against the pro-abortion psychopaths ... we are winning that battle in public opinion though we still have a hell of a political fight there). If we win the big issues, we’ll win the social issues.

“Its a stupid strawman. I wish we republicans would call it what it is.”

Agreed. They use these issues to raise cash their selves though, too ... the problem is that the Dems can make these idiotic “problems” national issues. Only a few conservatives will benefit.

I already see the Dems dragging out one of Obama’s interns that decided he was a she (Libs on Facebook all seem to post identical stuff on cue ... it’s both hilarious and scary). Of course, he’s all made up to look like a woman. I’m sure if you saw him in real life, he’d look like a walking mental case.

At any rate, this will probably be Hillary’s Winneford Skinner this campaign season since they have nothing of substance to run on. They gotta go and start “War on Women II : That’s Not Your Real Privates, But We Couldn’t Care Less Cause We Got Power To Seize And Almost Half This Country Eats This Garbage Up!”. I guess you could call it “War on Women I : Rise of the Fake Women”.

Eight decades does not constitute moral superiority. Moral grounding does. George Soros has been doing the devil's work for more than eight decades.

Now, this guy is talking about voting for a party who will violate his own moral convictions over fears of losing 30 pieces of corporate silver.

“A law won’t stop transgendered men from using woman’s bathrooms, nor keep “perverts” out.”

Come on! Look at how gun control laws keep guns out of the hands of criminals!!! (sarcasm)

I worked for Microsoft in Charlotte back in 1994. We had a temp employee that was “in the process” of transitioning.

He wore a dress, fake boobs and lots of makeup.

When he started there was a big todo of where he would go the bathroom.

Back then Microsoft determined that you used the bathroom that matched the plumbing. Since he still had plumbing he would use the Mens room.

Yuck.

Yes, it should be up to the states.
Federalism would solve a lot of problems this nation faces.

When a city in the state takes it upon itself to move the other way - to enable and protect the invasion, the state doesn’t have much choice, IMO.
