Donald Trump Renews Attacks on Ted Cruz’s Presidential Eligibility

Republican front-runner Donald Trump on Saturday resumed his questioning of rival Ted Cruz’s presidential eligibility, citing Cruz’s Canadian birth.

“The first thing the Democrats are going to do is sue him on the basis that he’s not a naturalized citizen, he wasn’t born in the country,” Trump said at a rally in Connecticut, which holds its primaries on Tuesday, Politico reported.

Even though Trump is right, he needs to stop this line of attack

Why?

Do you want every "anchor baby" and "American-wannabe" in the world thinking they can run for president?

Actually, Cruz is a naturalized citizen; that is the problem. He is not natural born. It just seems so crazy to me that we are even having this conversation. Never in the history of this country has a man born in Canada been considered a natural born citizen, even if both of his parents were citizens. These are strange times we live in.

I am yet to be convinced Ted Cruz is even a naturalized citizen.

“It sounds like he really wants to be President. As a rule, I don’t trust anybody that wants to be President...and I am seldom disappointed.”

So, you only put your trust in those running for office that DON’T want the office?

Gee, that must be super-duper smart, as I cannot follow the logic there...

(Democratics) Don't need to. Republicans are doing that for them and they aren't having a lot of luck.

RAT judges. They would see him become the nominee first, and then unload an "October surprise" reversal from an appellate court.

Shazam...President Killary.

I don’t want a king. I want Trump to serve for 4 years, 8 if he does a good job, and then it is time for someone else. I would love to see the royal trappings of the presidency toned way down too. I know that Trump has plenty of money of his own, so this does not apply to him but I am tired of presidents and their families taking extravagant vacations around the world. I would like to see congress address this issue, perhaps mandating that NO federal monies whatsoever will be spent on vacations for the first family outside of the United States. Not one single penny! Not for security, not for anything!

Really?? Trump was born in the US so his family has been here longer than 70 years. His father was born in NY in 1905. His mother came to US in 1936 and became a citizen in 1942. Way before Cruz family.

Cruz dad arrived in what 1959 but only became citizen after 2005. Is that common core math you are using?

I’m curious about it myself. Such an easy thing for Cruz to clear up and yet he doesn’t.

Sherman and Grant conspired to conceal and destroy the career of the best general the union possessed, George Thomas. I say this as a southern sympathizer.

Actually, Cruz is a naturalized citizen; that is the problem.

That hasn't been definitely proven. His mother may have taken on a different nationality before his birth.

My wife always tries to make what I just said sound stupid too. After I point out the error in her interpretation (if she’s willing to listen, at that point) she appreciates my wisdom. :{)

And I rest my case. The Democrats don't need to do a thing.

Trump’s family has been here 100 years or so that we know of.

What on earth do you mean?!

Can you name a president who did not want to be president, who did not seek it?

He may be right, but Trump is being silly.

Oh well, I knew there would be times of cringing when I signed on.

“Cruz needs to point out that his family has been in the U.S. a lot longer than Trump’s.”

It wouldn’t be surprising if he tried.

Donald Trump’s father was born in Woodhaven, Queens, to Elizabeth (née Christ) and Frederick Trump, immigrants who moved to the United States from Kallstadt, Germany in 1885.

Cruz wants you to forget he was born in Canada. Yes, Cruz may be an American citizen because his mother may still have been one at time of his birth, even if she renounced her own country to become a Canadian citizen in order to vote.

But he wants his fans to think he is a “natural born” citizen. His supporters can’t have it both ways — his supporters who once insisted that to be eligible to run for President a candidate must be born on U.S. soil.

Being born in Canada, makes Cruz a Canadian citizen as well, though Cruz claims he’s “renounced” his citizenship. (The Cruz’s change countries like the rest of us change undershorts.) Officially, though, he apparently is still a Canadian, unless he’s completed the official paperwork. Like another International Man of Mystery, his records are sealed. Oh well.

In sum, his family has been in the USA since they moved here with little Eduardo. Correcting you guys has become a full-time job for the rest of us.

Naturalization records are public records. I seldom even read this stuff. But do people say that Cruz is somehow hiding his naturalization record?

“Good grief. Not this again.”

Why is it, that Cruz, who is supposed to be such a brilliant lawyer, and an expert on the Constitution, all he has to do to resolve the controversy is to release his U.S. citizenship verification documents? That is all, that’s it, it would be over instantly.
