Go ahead, Donald, get 1,237; it won't matter: RNC delegate

Supporters cheer for republican presidential candidates Donald Trump

Donald Trump may be the only Republican presidential candidate who can realistically hit the magic 1,237 number for the majority of delegates, but according to a senior Republican National Committee official that does not mean he will become the GOP presidential nominee.

Curly Haugland, a longstanding RNC official and an unbound delegate from North Dakota who will be on the convention rules committee in July, told CNBC that attaining 1,237 during the primaries does not secure the nomination.

"Even if Trump reaches the magic number of 1,237 the media and RNC are touting, that does not mean Trump is automatically the nominee," Haugland said. "The votes earned during the primary process are only estimates and are not legal convention votes. The only official votes to nominate a candidate are those that are cast from the convention floor."

Haugland explained the primary number is really an estimate. That's because the eligibility of some delegates in how they are voted in could be questioned and their status may not be considered valid, Haugland said.

"Remember every state has a different delegate allocation process," he said. "Delegates are picked up in state contests that can be winner take all, open primaries, and remember there are seven states that allow the candidates to pick their own delegates. Until those delegate challenges are settled, there is no 1,237."

Haugland said he expects the delegates won in winner-take-all states to be most likely challenged. House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI). RNC shoots down plan to shift power to the delegates

Hitting 1,237 in the primaries does not mean the candidate would automatically become the GOP presidential nominee.

"You become the presumptive nominee when you get 1,237 bound delegates," RNC spokesman Lindsay Walters told CNBC. "You officially become nominee when you have 1,237 votes on the floor of the convention."

Trump has been contesting the delegate appropriation methods, accusing the Ted Cruz campaign of stealing delegates in Louisiana and Colorado. The Trump campaign has said it is considering challenging the seating of the Colorado delegation at the July convention. In March, a Trump senior adviser confirmed the campaign was moving on its plan to contest delegates in Louisiana after Trump won the state's primary but received fewer delegates than Cruz.

The Trump campaign did not immediately return a request for comment about Haugland's assertions.

From Wiki, about this guy:

“In 2008, Haugland set up an unsuccessful run for chairman of the Republican National Committee, in part because he was against a proposal that would allow an outsider to hold the position.”

I guess he represents the ‘this is OUR club, and you are not a member’ wing of the party.

Translation: Trump will not derail our plans of a Hillary presidency. The thought of having the WH and both houses of Congress in GOP hands terrifies the GOP because then they will have to step up and do the things they claim they want to do.

Hint: they don’t want to DO those things.

If Trump wins the election, one of his first acts should be to leave the Republican party and to ask us to form a new one that he and most of our Congressmen, Senators, Governors, and state legislators can join.

CU was a great victory for conservatives but look at the unintended consequences. GOP members of Congress are selling out the country. Their secret donors lay hidden.

The selling out happened well before CU, so blaming CU is wrong. Also, the provision in McCain-Feingold that CU struck down was written by those sellouts to silence those who were trying to reveal the sell out.

They will be purring about how right this guy is on the TECHNICAL points.

How it will be too bad that Trumpites and Trumpsters (sneering tone of voice implied) will have to face the facts that their guy just didn’t have the ground game that a non-establishment candidate who didn’t even f-ing know he was a Canadian citizen as of two years ago and is so f-ing genius all of a sudden that he drops the clumsy transparent nearly illegal crap he pulled in Iowa and a few other states - is NOW so slick that he knows every little trick in the behind the scenes book.

THE ESTABLISHMENT IS DOING THIS FOR CRUZ TO STOP The Donald.

I won’t dispute your facts but I still have to give Bush Jr. credit for starting this nightmare when he OPENED THE BORDER. Once that happened, the Republicans found access to cheap, reliable (when compared with American high school graduates), high quality (when compared with American high school graduates), and smart (when compared with American high school graduates) labor. Dems found VAST NEW VOTING BLOCKS. So then the game was on...and it is still on.

The last thing this country wants is open borders. 20 years ago, both parties respected that wish at least somewhat. Now both parties DESPISE anyone wanting border security.

GW Bush promoted Comprehensive Immigration Reform in 2006 that would have led to granting amnesty to at least 11 million illegals. The American people were so incensed with Bush that republicans stayed home during the midterms and let the democrats take over Congress.

Bush head for his Texas ranch waving to reporters “See you at the signing!”.

We have been fighting for now 10 years with the political establishment over illegals and immigration and finally we have a fighter for us in Donald Trump. And the political establishment is throwing every last thing they can find at him and they’re not done.

I am no Trump fan, but, if he gets 1237 delegates and the RNC slime nonetheless stop him, they will have to deal with a lot more than Trump supporters. The RNC will be flat, black and will glow in the dark under its very own mushroom cloud.

“The only candidate that rule change benefits is Kasich.”

Actually, if the rules are changed so that any candidate that has gotten a single vote could be nominated, the whole field of 17 could be nominated, which would mean that all those who won delegates but then dropped out would once again have pledged delegates that would be bound to vote for them on at least the 1st vote.

That would deny Trump from the needed 1237 on the 1st vote while providing cover for the RNC because they ‘recognized the will of the voters’ giving every candidate an opportunity to win.

but according to a senior Republican National Committee official that does not mean he will become the GOP presidential nominee.

Then you can kiss the GOP goodbye. That's political suicide. This would also be the downfall of the country as we would end up with Dems in control for decades.

Rita, you and I are in disagreement over Trump BUT RNC, if it tries to pull thiscrap will need only to win a credentials fight or several. Make up a phony excuse as to why NY's unanimous or near unanimous Trump delegation is somehow illegitimate. Congressthing Peter King (plutocrat slave-NY2) does the TV agitprop aout how NY was somehow ROBBED. The NY delegation is ineligible by normal rules to vote on its own credentials. Or bundle FL and other Trump big delegations with NY (CA?, PA, IL, etc., as many as necessary) and make them all part of one challenge on which NONE of them can vote.

This sort of crap is an old GOP-E tactic pulled by Dewey and Eisenhower against Robert Taft in 1952 and it worked as Ike's supporters piously pranced about the convention floor with pre-printed picket signs reading Thou Shalt Not Steal to unseat the Texas delegation chosen by whatever means, most likely state convention in those days.

Therefore it is NEVER over until Paul Ryan brings down the gavel as convention chair and declares the nominee. Then Congresscreature Gerald Ford did that to Reagan at the 1968 convention as Paul Laxalt approached to change enough delegate votes from Nixon to Reagan to stop Nixon on the first ballot, leaving only Reagan and Rockefeller and the second choice of most Nixon delegates was Reagan. Nixon would have collapsed on the second ballot since his dominance was hanging together by bubblegum and bailing wire and the first ballot loyalty of J. Strom Thurmond, Barry Goldwater, Harry Dent and the ever treasonous Clarke Reed. I know you mean well on this POTUS race even if I disagree with your candidate. The foregoing is a caution to you and your fellow Trump supporters NOT to underestimate the perfidy of the RNC and the GOP-E.

Cruz is likely going nowhere. Trump has crippled him. So the obvious choices are those who emerge at the convention, are trusted by the usual gang of suspects and remained out of the fight. They come on during Day One of the convention through a successful credentials war, when it is too late for Trump's tactics. They don't like Cruz or even Rubio so it will be neither of them. It won't be Kasich whatever Kasich may think. It might be Scott Walker (OK I am biased). They might name Cornyn or some other senior senator not known to be a leftist sliebag but who really is. OR, Paul Ryan may turn his gavel over to the generally unknown Kevin McCarthy and "reluctantly" take the nomination "to save the arty and the nation." What a SWELL guy!

Do ya see what I am saying? AND, if it is Ryano, when he loses because of the mass nausea of the base over what a whore he is, he gets simultaneously re-elected to the House seat (allowed in Wisconsin, see 2012) and continues as "leader" of the Wall Street Party if not as Speaker.

If Sir Donald Trump reach 1237+ and not elected winner, the GOP can kiss Good Buy because they will be decimated, and a stronger 3rd party will rise and maybe even win!

They are NOT going to know what they are asking for then or hitting!!

But they will continue to try get their way because THEY won’t losing their prosperous gravy train, sadly more important than the good for the Country!!!
