How Paul Manafort Took Over the Trump Campaign (4 days old but vy interseting)
New York Magazine ^ | April 19th | Gabriel Sherman

Posted on 04/23/2016 10:12:34 AM PDT by RoosterRedux

The shift of power from Lewandowski to Manafort began from the moment the latter arrived on the scene, in late March. Manafort exudes authority, even down to the way he calls the candidate “Donald” (Lewandowski says “Mr. Trump,” even in private). Manafort also developed a bond with the Trump family. “Paul has a robust relationship with Jared, Ivanka, and the boys,” a staffer says.

The takeover was cemented over the weekend when Manafort called a senior staff meeting at Trump Tower. The meeting, first reported by Politico, and which I confirmed, sent a message to staff that Manafort, not Lewandowski, is making decisions. Shortly after 8 a.m., Manafort gathered the advisers in the 25th-floor conference room. Manafort sat in the middle of the table; Lewandowski sat toward the end by the door. According to one person briefed on the meeting, Lewandowski spoke only for a short time about how Trump supporters take up too much time snapping photographs of the candidate on the rope line after rallies. Trump made a brief appearance at the meeting, which staffers interpreted as him blessing Manafort’s authority. When he left for a rally upstate, Lewandowski joined him while Manafort continued the meeting.

For Trump, Manafort’s ascension has both advantages and drawbacks. Trump has clearly become a more disciplined candidate in the time Manafort’s been on the scene. There’ve been fewer errant comments about abortion or NATO and fewer embarrassing tweets. “He’s calling Manafort like 20 times a day,” one person close to the campaign says. This is important, as Trump can’t afford unnecessary scandals as he attempts to reach the magic number of 1,237 delegates while girding for a contested convention.

All in all Manafort is a good choice. He really goes over well on TV and he and Lewandowski hitting the Sunday morning shows as Trump surrogates was a good move. It was time to evolve to a more sophisticated style. It also frees Trump up to concentrate on rallies and speeches.

Gabriel Sherman is unreadable. Part of it is that you don’t know which quotes are real and which are fabrications.

Is that so? I no longer read NY Mag and don’t know him.

And Manafort didn't actually replace Lewandowski because Trump was calling the shots.

You might say that Manafort replaced Trump.

Shows a lot of flexibility on the part of Trump. He recognized he needed help and took quick action to fix the problem.

Impressive.

I seriously doubt that Lewandowski wasted any money. This has been the most frugal, cost-effective campaign in the 20th century.

Corey has never run a national campaign before, and did the amazing and vital thing in giving Trump a landslide win in NH.

Trump considers Manafort as a peer, and that is what was needed.

Things change, this is all good.

I’m glad Trump calls Manafort 20 times a day. It shows he’s really serious about doing it right a d winning.

Nothing against Corey but I’m glad that Trump is bringing on seasoned pros. Shows he wants to win. Early in my management career, the company I was working for started growing rapidly and suddenly older and more experienced people were being brought in from the outside to run things. At the time, I felt like I was getting shunted aside, like I wasn’t measuring up. But later I learned that I didn’t know quite as much as I thought I did and I was happy to have all this talent on board.

Exactly. TRUMP was calling the shots, and that’s a given.

Manafort is a delegate whiz by all accounts. TRUMP is paying attention to Manafort’s experience but it’s always going to have to jive with TRUMP’s own instincts.

“I seriously doubt that Lewandowski wasted any money.”

Hannity calculated how much Trump spent per vote received in New York. The amount was cents, it didn’t get to a dollar. He compared it to Bernie who spent a lot more per vote.

That has been happening from the beginning.

Yeah. Nothing says good TV like calling conservative supporters of Ted Cruz members of the Gestapo.

Or the Pro-life movement extremist. Heard that the other day from one of Manatees skinhead propaganda boys on CNN.

The essence of GOPe/Rino/Hack reeks off this guy.

Let's leave the party before they leave us...AGAIN!

There is a new hope.

See tag line.

FRgards,

I doubt he did either.

I am sure that Trump approves every significant expenditure. I know I would.

Builders like Trump pore over the little things for fun. That's how you come in under budget.

I thought that part of the article was BS.

Those have been my thoughts as well. He continues to have Lewandowski close to him - remains loyal to him - and yet he has been humble enough to seek out an expert and listen.

I’ve been reading some of Trump’s early books, and this kind of action on Trump’s part does not surprise me. He will seek to surround himself with good people. In fact, has already done so, evidenced by his reliance early on of Jeff Sessions.

For those who need reassurance that Trump has what it takes to be an excellent President, consider reading “Art of the Deal” which is a classic.... but there is a lot of insight into this candidate as well to be had from his late 80’s early 90’s book “Surviving at the Top.” Darlin’ and I also enjoyed reading “Crippled America.”

From the NY Post:

Sanders spent $9 per vote in NY — while Trump spent 13 cents

Paul has known Donald for 30 years and lives in Trump Towers near the family. For all intents and purposes he is part of the extended family. His ‘bonding’ is not ‘new’.

Paul is also not working for pay. His travel, meals, lodging, and assorted sundries are picked up but he does not need the money for income. He’s a retired wealthy guy.

Gabriel Sherman, stupid reporter. Can’t read the rest because it’s probably short of accuracy or made up, even if it’s positive for Trump. Probably just another reporter with sh*t for brains or at least a portion thereof, doing a low budget story on DT because DT sells.
