Paul Ryan: 'We Don't Have' Votes to Pass a Budget(to the Democrats' liking)

House Speaker Paul Ryan is on the verge of failing to pass a budget, a setback reportedly highlighting the same internal GOP divisions that bedeviled his predecessor.

"You need the votes to pass a budget," the Wisconsin Republican told reporters Thursday, Politico reports. "We don’t have them right now."

According to CNN, Ryan doesn't need a budget since the two-year fiscal deal Ohio GOP Rep. John Boehner negotiated before stepping down as House Speaker last year set overall federal spending level for the next fiscal year.

"But the budget drama is a big political black eye for Ryan and his top lieutenants who promised a return to 'regular order' under his leadership," CNN reports.

Politico notes the House Republican Conference is divided over the Boehner budget deal, which raised budget caps to allow for more government spending, with conservatives preferring to keep across-the-board cuts known as sequester, enacted into law years ago.

This speaker will kowtow to please the Democrats on the budget as he did last year rather than to please conservatives.

He is a Pelosi with a beard.

He doesn’t have the votes because he is a sniveling quisling hell bent on sticking his nose up Obama’s butt to give him anything he wants. I hope real soon he doesn’t have enough votes to keep his damn job.

Perhaps if Ryan put in as much time and effort into the budget as he and his gravey train buddies have been toward defeating Donald Trump he might actually get a responsible budget passed.

This assclown needs to be removed. Screw the Democrats and pass a conservative budget and let them vote it down. Quit caving in and get off your knees, blowmonkey!

Illogical because the GOPe have enough votes in both houses.

Truth is Ryan can’t get conservative votes because they have to run this year and the electorate is fed up

Time to retire the wuss

“He is a Pelosi with a beard.”

If she has another facelift they will be difficult to tell apart.

So why doesn’t the pubbie leadership force the democrats to shut down the government then? Oh that’s right, the crony/donor class has told them that must never be allowed to happen ever again.

Ryan wants to perpetuate the Reid/Pelosi continuing resolution. Status quo for GOPe. Boehner would be proud.

If the House did its job and advanced a separate appropriations bill for each of the major executive departments (e.g. Agriculture, Defense, Treasury, etc.), issues would be clearer and simpler to resolve. Focusing on the narrower needs of each department would limit the potential for any potential "shutdown" spectacle to that affected department while the others received their own separate appropriations. Congress worked that way until recent years when it learned to conceal agendas, accountability and unchecked growth within massive, last-minute "omnibus" appropriations bills that Congress must blindly pass to avoid political crises.

They could fix this if they wanted to. They don't.

Majorities.....
Had them all...

But...
1. The republicans are not fiscally conservative
2. They are morally bankrupt
3. They wish to undermine the constitution

IF Trump wins I hope one of the first things he does is
Push the states to have TERM limits on these loooosers

The Republicans have the majority in the House. He wouldn't need the Dems at all if his own party wasn't divided on this.

Not sure what Ryan can do about not having enough Republican support.

Not sure what Ryan can do about not having enough Republican support.

A good start would be to propose a budget that the Republicans agree with. Part of his job as Speaker is to work out compromises within his own party.

The reality, as noted above by another poster is that the current situation where budgets are "impossible" to pass helps the connected, Washington insiders preserve the status quo of nearly unlimited government funds.

The last thing Ryan and his ilk actually want is a budget that will pass. That would end the gravy train that results from continuing resolutions.

Creating a budget, passing it and then actually LIVING WITHIN ITS CONSTRAINTS is something foreign to both the House and the senate. Time to change the whole bunch.

That would be nice but no one knows what that budget would look like.

There are lots of Republicans who don't want the sequester levels of spending for the military, and lots more who don't support increased spending for anything. Plus a decent number who are big spenders at heart.

Ryan isn't great, but we can't kid ourselves that he's the problem. The problem is a big divergence of views among our reps.
