Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX)said Wednesday morning that a contested Republican convention is certain and that supporters of Donald Trump are ultimately helping Hillary Clinton reach the White House.

During a radio interview for a Philadelphia morning show, Cruz predicted with certainty that the Republican Party is “headed to a contested convention.” He suggests Trump supporters “might as well put a Hillary sticker on your car.”

Do you realize how utterly pointless are the polls, you assemble. The underlying assumption is that the coming campaign is pointless. But it is not pointless. Here is how Trump can easily crush Clinton:

Absolutely meaningless.

Actually no.

Granted, polls taken in April are not conclusive of what will happen in Nov. But they do show Trump is starting out with incredible weaknesses on top of the already baked in weaknesses for a GOP candidate running in 2016

That 5% Cruz/Trump difference that’s there will reverse when/if Trump is screwed out of the nomination by one or two losers or by other dark horses. There are enough to rebalance that mess and it will be just like 2012 all over again. That’s not a threat - it is a reality.

Cruz might have made a good President twenty years ago. What his base fails to account for is that the majority of voters outside of FR don’t care about Cruz’s conservative Constitutionalism.

It is not a concern or motivating force to pull the lever. A host of other issues are the priority motivators in making their choice for a candidate. Certainly, outside the republican party, his platform falls on deaf ears. Independents and democrats outnumber republicans in many states. Without their votes were are destined to lose. We are being outnumbered.

Nominating a president becomes making the decision between who might possibly be the most conservative president and who can actually win the general election.

No, I’m saying that no matter what the circumstances you’ll remain entirely disingenuous and pretend that Trump never had a chance because he is Trump, ignoring that at this point it’s improbable that anyone running as a Republican could win a national election.

I believe that Trump will either completely destroy Hillary, or get utterly trounced. Same with Cruz, except that his likelihood of getting utterly trounced is much, much higher. If Trump loses the general though, even by a hair, you can bet your bottom dollar that certain people around here will crow shrilly to the rooftops until they go deaf that they TOLD us he would never win and how's Cruz looking now and...etc.

I agree with all you wrote. Cruz is no different than Clinton on a lot of issues I care about. Both Cruz and Clinton are free traders who love neocon wars and invasions overseas. Even on immigration we know they are alike.

Social issues are nice to fight for but they can't get you a job if free trade is making you poor and you lose your fall back service job to low wage illegals after the factory closes.

And I want to see Trump land body blows. He may fail and lose - but he will go down swinging. If Trump fails - Cruz is young and can run again and do his "principled conservative schtick" and see if that wins him the election.

Incredible weaknesses like an unknown just-born Senator from Illinois?

Didn’t he say a few months ago that he wouldn’t support a contested convention? What a hypocrite.

The Beck and the Iowa shenanigans told me what he is. Cruz is an unethical, lying, scheming, two-faced, back stabber.

If I happened to see him in a room, I'd go home immediately and take a shower to rid the stench of that man.

It’s true.

If it weren’t so sad and tragic, it’d be laughable.

It would be a shame if a bunch of us low information, un-engaged Trumpsters couldn’t manage to find our polling places in November if this clueless jerk is the nominee.

Just follow the other cars with the Hillary stickers on them.

If Cruz was an honorable man he would concede the campaign to Trump Hillary.

Fixed it.

...now, if there aren’t too many bridges got torched over the past couple of months and we can get back to having discussions around here....

It was always going to be an uphill slog, yes. But having a large minority of the party go crazy about the worst possible candidate with the highest unfavorable ratings in the history of ever was not smart.

Those who got on the Trump train despite it being a con will deserve all the blame for the destruction of the party and the rise of the left.

They wanted the fantasy. They will own the reality.
