Why living around nature could make you live longer (Not PC!)
Washington Post ^ | 04/19/16 | Chelsea Harvey

Living closer to nature is better for your health, new research suggests — and may even extend your life.

A study just published in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives found that people who live in “greener” areas, with more vegetation around, have a lower risk of mortality. The health benefits are likely thanks to factors such as improved mental health, social engagement and physical activity that come with living near green spaces.

The research relied on data from a vast long-term Harvard study funded by the National Institutes of Health called the Nurses’ Health Study, which has collected health information biennially on more than 100,000 female registered nurses in the U.S. since 1976. The new paper analyzed participant data from between 2000 and 2008, taking note of any deaths that occurred and their causes. At the same time, the researchers used satellite data to assess the amount of green vegetation surrounding each participant’s home during the study period.

I don’t know if this qualifies, whenifhow.

Agenda 21 is about rewilding and removing humans from the rural life. This is about it being healthy to live a rural life.

Right?

Actually it has sound science behind it.
It began with the lean movement in healthcare.
They were looking at post-op surgeries and found a distinct divide in a group for healing, pain meds, whiny nurse activity, etc.

I will find and post that for you later today.

Trees really are good for you.

The folks I know that stayed young into their 80s and 90s were ALL gardeners.

The same here. We are in our mid 70's so the old gardeners, we knew lived until their 70-80's. Both of our Grandmothers lived and gardened until their late 70's early 80's. They had live flowers growing up they passed on.

Now, we are seeing the age spread that you noted re gardiners. In fact our county has a great master gardener group. Many are in their late 70's to mid 90's. Besides, their gardens, they are avid walkers and walk year round until the frog drowning rains hit.

My wife is our principal gardiner. She has over 30 thriving roses, glads, and other flowers. She has cattle water troughs, where she raises tomatoes, Kale, arugula and other goodies. A miniature fig tree in a horse watering trough which provides figs from late July to the first frost. She has a prolific miniature Meyer Lemon tree that provides lemons from late July to this month.

Our yard guy does the heavy lifting, hauling and yearly pruning. She and I do the rest. Everything is on a digital controlled drip system to avoid wasting water and letting plants die from not enough water.

One of our adult children, our DIL, one grand child, and I in the summertime are like goats dining on the fresh veggies/fruit.

At dinnertime, my wife sends the goats outside for our salads, while the tenderfeet stay in and eat the same stuff from a salad bowl to their salad plates. For dessert the goat herd goes back outside and picks more figs and the sweet miniature cherry tomatoes.

I see this as a propaganda piece of the first order. The next propaganda piece will talk about how those wonderful open spaces are for wildlife and NOT people.

There is always a reason they create the crisis before pulling the football away.

I get that. My point was that the risk of mortality is the same for everyone... 100%. It makes me laugh.

Totally agree: Small towns and rural communities have more socially MEANINGFUL interaction. Cities encourage social anonymity. Many people in rural areas bitch about “all your neighbors know what you do”.....but that same snooping neighbor is likely to be the one to call 911 when you fall off your roof, or check on you when you fail to “follow your usual routine”. I’ve lived in both environments, and rural/small town/city is WAY preferable.

When I brought this to your attention, I was not seeing this as a direct indication of Agenda 21.... just some findings being reported about how research and circumstances opposed to it are being bandied about. My initial thought was, “accidental journalism.”

It is certainly true that NOTHING in the media can be taken at face value without a lot of lovely salt! FWIW

I guess I could post it as a chat thread but if you carry a weapon and don’t wear bright clothing you should be ok.

I graze in the yard also.
I hope that I can garden every season of my life.

I inherited my grazing from my Dad and my Maternal Grandfather.

My Grandfather would be considered a master gardener today.

He had an acre of land that fed his family and neighbors. His wife, my Grandmother, raised chickens and the best strawberries ever. He used the organic fertilizer from her chickens and the mulched strawberry plants and left over strawberries. He would take his herd of grandkids, my cousins and I on grazing tours of his garden. We learned how to eat fresh raw corn on the cob, tomatoes we picked, red lettuce to go with the tomatoes and other delights. We were not allowed to go on our Grandmother’s strawberry patch. She would have fresh strawberries in big bowl on her kitchen table.

So what do you think about this? “...National parks, forests, even farms and ranches....”

All the places they want to rewild. So there are boogeymen stealing children in these places, stay away?

I dunno. Just an interesting thing that made me think of agenda 21.

Also reminded me of that movie where they live in the middle of a forest like early settlers in America....
And they manufacture monsters to keep people from trying to leave..
