It took Rudy Giuliani quite some time to publicly state that he would vote for Donald Trump in the New York primary, but the former mayor and presidential hopeful doesnt want people to assume he endorses Trump. Sure, Giuliani thinks Trumps the best candidate in the field, he told Fox News Megyn Kelly last night, but thats as far as Giulianis prepared to go. Specifically, Giuliani wants to keep his distance from Trump when it comes to having to defend his friends public remarks and feuds, especially the one with Kelly herself:
(video at link)
Donald Trump and is voting for him, but when pressed by Megyn Kelly tonight about why he wont endorse the GOP frontrunner, Giuliani finally got to the reason why.
Firstly, he said, Im not part of the campaign. I dont want anybody to think that I am an official in the campaign.
Kelly notes that an endorsement doesnt necessarily confer official campaigner status, but Giuliani offers another bite at the same apple before getting down to the actual problem:
Nobody thinks that, she said. The New York Post endorsed Donald Trump. I dont think anybody thinks The New York Post is part of the campaign.
Giuliani explained thats hes a political person and would have to make speeches and join Trumps campaign if he endorsed the billionaire mogul, but that hes not ready to completely rule out working with him.
Perhaps realizing that hed just made the same argument that Kelly refuted, Giuliani admitted that hes uncomfortable fronting for Trump:
If they would make some of the changes, maybe, he said.
Theres no question I believe he is the best candidate, Giuliani added. And if people want to interpret that as an endorsement, it is, but it doesnt require any obligation on my part to have to defend every single thing they do.
The lawyer in Giuliani has gotten the better of him. If hes going on television to talk about how Trump is the best candidate for the presidency with the implication that others should follow his example, thats pretty much a de facto personal endorsement, no? If hes going on prime-time TV to make that argument, there is a need to defend it, even if its just for personal credibility. Like it or not, that also involves explaining how making the kind of broad statements about Mexicans that Giuliani denounces here goes into Giulianis decision that Trump is the best representative of the GOP in November.
Giuliani wants to eat his cake and have it too by attempting to evade any responsibility for his own choice as a prominent politician in a presidential primary. He could have just voted for his friend and kept quiet about it, or simply said that friendship was the basis for his vote and many would have respected that kind of loyalty, even if they disagreed with the choice. By ducking these questions, though, Giuliani leaves the impression that he cant give a credible answer as to why Trumps public outbursts are overcome by his other talents for the job, which is a pretty weak position for a quasi-surrogate on prime time.
Still, Giulianis doing better in that role than Ben Carson.
He’s not worried about being on the Cruzer Alinskyite blacklist. Loser Cruzer tantrums like that never work. LOL.
Perhaps the mayor has something in mind for the future. Governor of NY would be nice.
See a pattern here?
“Specifically, Giuliani wants to keep his distance from Trump when it comes to having to defend his friends public remarks and feuds . . .”
Understandable. Trump’s behavior and policy statements are shameful. It is better to ignore or hide Trump’s rantings than to defend.
If he were elected president, the disaster to follow will not be possible to ignore or hide.
And they are all owned by Salem Media Group.

In other words, the tentacles run deep.
The question is: are all conservative media compromised?
I think he’ll end up being the best president in history. I really do. I don’t think you realize how much trouble our country is in on so many fronts. If trump fixes half of them, he will be looked upon with admiration. I think he can fix more then half to by the way. He is a dogged worker. He will put his sleaves up and work very hard for the country.
I am in agreement with you.
And importantly, Trump will install the right people in key positions who will execute their respective parts in the grand plan of returning America to her former greatness.
Will have the same sentiment if this turns into a Trump/Kasich ticket in the fall.
Especially when he talks about new york values slurpin down at the 7/11
Rudy has his gig on FOXey News— cant upset his apple cart too much. What it is...
How do you defend a guy who has mocked a disabled person, mocked a woman’s looks, launched very personal attacks against those who were supposed to be fellow republicans, accused President Bush of lying about WMDs, threatens others, etc. etc....You can’t, but some people don’t care how low he goes, as long as he keeps saying he will build a wall.
Maybe. Or, he may just be greedy. Trump boasts that he is greedy.
The problem I have with Trump is he has no discernible core values that are wholesome.
I think he probably loves his country like he loves his wives. Harsh but, more than likely, true.
You are spinnin and spinnin and spinnin. And btw I don’t cARE if he builds a wall, I want proper attention paid to the border with military, police, and border patrol all empowered and encouraged to do their job. That includes physical barriers where effective, but not necessarily a wall all the way. Because I know you people are going to shout later HE DIDNT BUILD A WALL ACROSS THE WHOLE SOUTHREN BORDDER HE LIEDA!
Exactly! Someone like Rudy doesn’t equivocate their support of someone they REALLY support.
‘You cant, but some people dont care how low he goes, as long as he keeps saying he will build a wall.’
In my opinion that’s the primary promise why i’ll vote for him. Why call it the United States if we don’t have a wall?
I like Guiliani because I know how he made NYC livable and enjoyable again. But Trump has got much further than he ever did in the presidential race so Trump must be doing something right. Let Trump be Trump!
I wish I could vote for Trump, but I changed affiliations 2+ years ago to Whig and only Repiblicans and Democrats can vote in today’s New York Primary.
I will, however, be able to vote Trump in November.
I heard the interview. Giuliani said he felt an actual endorsement meant he’d have to actively stump for Trump and defend EVERYTHING Trump said, whereas Giuliani said he agreed only with about 80% of what Trump said, which was the same percentage of the things he agreed with Ronald Regan about. Giuliani also said if people wanted to endorse his support of Trump as an “endorsement”, Giuliani had no problem with it.
BS headline, but of course what do you expect from the cluster of anti-Trump websites being funded by the #neverTrumpers.
everybody in FR has mocked public figures probably hundreds of times just look at the cartoons and pictures let alone phrases and observations.. grow a pair
