Trump campaign manager will not be prosecuted, sources say
Politico ^

A Florida prosecutor has decided not to prosecute Donald Trump’s campaign manager for battery after a March run-in with former Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields, sources with knowledge of the situation told POLITICO.

The decision not to press charges against Corey Lewandowski is scheduled to be announced on Thursday afternoon by Palm Beach County State Attorney David Aronberg.

Fields may still pursue a defamation case against Lewandowski, a source said.

Fields filed a police report last month after Lewandowski grabbed her by the arm and moved her out of Trump’s way following a press conference at Trump National Gold Club in Jupiter. She said he left bruises on her arm. Police later charged Lewandowski with simple battery, releasing video from surveillance cameras that shows Lewandowski reaching for and grabbing Fields.

Aronberg would not comment, but in a POLITICO interview last week, he pointed out that Jupiter police had a low “probable cause” standard to cite Lewandowski for battery. But the responsibility for moving forward with a full-blown prosecution rested with Aronberg’s office, which had to consider whether a crime occurred and whether they believed a jury of Floridians would prosecute.

“We have a higher standard to go forward with a prosecution,” he said.

“So we’re clear here. An accused can turn himself in without having the police issue a warrant for their arrest. They were gracious enough to allow that to occur. I fully assume from the issue that had he not turned himself in they would have issued a warrant and went to arrest him.”

Yeah, and that arrest would’ve been for a bogus charge that went nowhere.

If someone is arrested for a bogus charge, only a weird person focuses on the ‘arrest’ instead of the bogus accusation.

I guess the police were lying then? lol. Hey I wouldn’t put it past them but they were directly quoted. That is, there was no assumption. The police expressly stated he was arrested and given his notice to appear.

You mean he WAS Mirandized. No need to reply, you'll just be talking to the wall. The issue isn't important, and I don't like you. No biggie, life goes on.

I agree it was a bogus charge. But it makes you wonder how many people are actually arrested for charges that later turn out to be bogus.

The rank hypocrisy on display is amazing. I have watched Trumpkins for weeks condemning Cruz as a serial adulterer based on nothing more than a trashy tabloid story. I have watched you people tear down and destroy anyone who dared to question or oppose Donald, usually based on lies and innuendo. But I dare to suggest that just because they decided not to prosecute DOESN’T mean Corey is innocent, and suddenly you are all moaning and shrieking about how unfair it is to accuse him without him being found guilty! “Innocent until proven guilty” seems to be a constitutional principle that you folks only recognize when it benefits you or Trump - it seems you feel that way about a lot of the Constitution, only valid if it benefits you, to be ignored when it doesn’t. Heck, I have rabid Trumpkins sending me PM’s damning me to hell for what I said...

I have said it before - Trumpism is starting to look a lot like 1930s Facism, and the Trumpkins are the Brownshirts.

lol.

With such keen observations, I think you’re ready to become a regular writer for the Daily Beast!

Very curious personalization since I started this thread by stating when could we expect Ted’s supporters to come on here and apologize for excoriating this guy before he had his day in court. Are you a Ted supporter?

The money recovery could come from Ben Terris, the Washington Post reporter who was the witness. He obviously was interviewed by the DA and I’m guessing his story reeked.

“Fields may still pursue a defamation case against Lewandowski, a source said.”

I just watched Kelly Meagain, and the Blondes agree Cory was guilty. They are psychotic. I only watched to see if she would mention the Trump meeting, she did and said it was pleasant and hoped to announce an interview soon.

Yes I did. The guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Just because you are arrested does not mean you are put in handcuffs. That’s just stupid. He turned himself in so they didn’t have to go get him and put him in handcuffs. Secondly, since they released him on a promise to appear they wouldn’t necessarily need to take a mug shot and print him at that time. He was likely told to come in at some set time which now thankfully will never come.

Is claiming he is innocent because the videotape of the incident shows that there was no battery and it is demonstrated that the reporter has made several false claims in the past sufficient in your Cruz-warped world?
