Senate Judiciary Chairman Charles Grassley told Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland to his face Tuesday that the Senate wont consider his nomination.
Over breakfast, the Iowa Republican explained why the Senate wont be moving forward during this hyper-partisan election year, his office said. The statement added that Mr. Grassley thanked Judge Garland for his service, and that their 70-minute meeting in the Senate dining room was cordial and pleasant.
Both men arrived early for the meeting and avoided journalists later.
Mr. Grassley and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell are blocking Judge Garlands nomination, saying voters should have a role in filling the high court vacancy by electing a new president to choose a nominee. He seems like a nice quiet guy and it’s easy for the media to throw the label “moderate” on him. However, an analysis of his dissenting and concurring opinions show he is a rubber-stamp judge for ANY action by the Executive branch.
Just the sort of judge 0bama, Clinton or Joseph Stalin would be looking for.
Tell Obama we will act when the DoJ acts upon Hillary’s treachery, and not until.
might just as well have nominated Judge Joseph Force Carter
They might as well vote to confirm now. With the split between Trump and Cruz supporters, Hillary is going to win very easily
Oh, no! Now the Demwits will start blocking the SCOTUS nominees of Republican presidents!!! /sarc
The only way the Hildebeast loses is if tRUMP doesn't get the nomination and he decides against a third-party run.
Regardless, Grassley should give the guy a hearing and reject him on the basis of his enemy-of-the-Constitution record. The entire process could be finished in time for lunch.
This "Biden Rule" is b*llsh*t and their use of it will come back to bite the Republicans (if they ever have another president).
But, that's only typical of the bumbling GOPe.
I bet he won't continue behaving that way if a REPUBLICAN becomes head of the Executive branch.
Don’t count your chickens before they hatch.
