Krauthammer: GOP split 'guaranteed' if Trump loses nomination
The Washington Examiner ^ | 4/8/2016 | EDDIE SCARRY

Posted on 04/08/2016 1:38:22 PM PDT by BlackFemaleArmyColonel

Conservative commentator Charles Krauthammer predicted that the Republican Party would most certainly collapse if Donald Trump is denied a presidential nomination at the convention in July.

In his latest column for the Washington Post, Krauthammer said if Trump does not lock up the nomination before the convention — he has the most delegates but needs a majority — it is possible the party will coalesce around an alternative and the billionaire's supporters will walk away, leaving the party in shambles.

"And if Trump loses out, a split is guaranteed," wrote Krauthammer. "In Trump's mind, he is a winner. Always. If he loses, it can only be because he was cheated. He constantly contends that he's being treated unfairly. He is certain to declare any convention process that leaves him without the nomination irredeemably unfair. No need to go third party. A simple walkout with perhaps a thousand followers behind will doom the party in November."

Trump has insisted that if he has the most delegates, even if it's less than half of those needed to win the nomination, he should be granted the nomination. But party rules allow delegates at a brokered convention to re-vote to elect a candidate who they believe to be most likely to beat the Democratic nominee in a general election.

Really if the Trump fanboys hat the GOP so much just go away. Start your own party.

Yeah, I've kind of had it with them too. If Trump didn't like the rules requiring 1237, or the fact that not all delegates were bound, or that delegates wouldn't have to vote for him after the first ballot, then he shouldn't have entered the GOP primary. He should have run as an independent right from the start if he didn't like the rules, or run under the banner of some other party.

And if all these people hate everything about the party, and will stay home if he doesn't win, and are convinced that Republicans in Congress are as bad as Democrats, then why did they bother?

Just saw data saying that the Senate outlook is looking worse and worse. Wonderful. If we lose the Senate, Garland gets confirmed anyway even if we manage to win the White House.

I'm sick of the immature foot-stamping of people who want the rules to do be something different than what they are. Neither one of these guys was my first choice, but I'm willing to play along if their the only two options left.

But this incessant "it's not fair!" whining, threats to take their ball and go home if they don't win -- completely sick of it.

Go, please. Vote Democratic, or create your own stupid little third party that will max out with about 16% of the vote, and win nothing in Congress either. Don't let the GOP door hit you where the good Lord split you.

“Yep. Pretty much. I will vote for no one but Trump. “

Same here even if I have to write his name in.

Last month, after our primary in NC, I switched from a Republican [over 40 yrs as one] to unaffiliated after watching month after month how the RNC has treated Trump. My husband and Dad were already unaffiliated voters.....my Dad wanted to switch to the Republican party and I talked him out of it. All of us plan to vote Trump in November. If he is not listed on the ballot, we will write his name in. A vote for ANYBODY else is a vote for the status quo, IMO.

I will vote for no one but Trump.

So if Cruz is the nominee, you will not vote for him vs. Hillary??

Well said.

Let me echo that - “No one but Trump.”

I simply will not vote for Ted Cruz. He repulses me as much (if not more) than one of the RATS.

I will CERTAINLY not vote for some GOP-e squish if they want to go that route at the convention.

I regret that I voted for Mitt Romney, John McCain and Bob Dole. I will never vote for a GOP-e again. Ever. For anything.

He constantly contends that he's being treated unfairly.

He has been treated unfairly, Kraut, starting with the first debate and on until now as the GOPe is trying every trick they have to thwart the will of the voters. Trump threatens the globalist agenda desired by the big donors and many GOPe, and nothing sets them on the warpath like a threat to the system that keeps them in control of the party.

“The GOP is happy with hillary”

Actually, it appears that the ones who are “happy with Hillary” are the Trump supporters who will vote for ‘no one but Trump’.

My adult sons wonder why they should vote as well.

Hell, to any casual FR reader who would stumble across any thread bashing either candidate Trump or Cruz they’d probably wonder WTF?!

Some in this forum’s membership has more than a few of us from thinking our candidate lineup four months ago was one of the best ever to present “why in hell even vote?”

So you are a hillary supporter. what the F are YOU doing here?

Have you noted the names of those on this thread who say they will not vote for the Republican nominee unless it is Trump? Would you say that they are Hillary supporters also?

So if Trump does not get the 1237 REQUIRED BY THE RULES to win the nomination you will stay home and let Hillary destroy America?

If Trump doesn't get the nomination then Hillary will win, guaranteed. Cruz wouldn't stand a chance against her.

John Boehner is that you?

Right...because anyone who thinks we need to unite behind whomever the nominee is to defeat Hillary, and to prevent her from packing the Supreme Court must be John Boehner.

I would accuse you of being a Democrat disruptor, but I think you're just a moron.

Yes, I have been telling that to the Cruz supporters, but they are in denial.

Trump voters are not going to vote for Cruz if he 'wins' a convention fight, after staying in the race just to throw the race back to the convention.

This violates the spirit of the primary system!

If Cruz supporters think they can win without Trump supporters, they are more delusional then I thought they were!
