Pope Francis calls to accept gays

In a major shift of Catholic tenets of faith, pope releases paper instructing Catholics on how to live, tells them to accept homosexuals

Pope Francis, who has long revealed his liberal positions through interviews, came out on Friday in an official statement calling on Catholics to be more accepting of homosexuals as well as divorced Catholics.

While he didn't change official church doctrines in his paper, which is an "apostolic exhortation" instructing Catholics on how to live, the pope paved the way for a serious shift in the Catholic church away from central tenets of the faith.

"A pastor cannot feel that it is enough simply to apply moral laws...as if they were stones to throw at people's lives," he wrote in the paper, cited by CNN. "By thinking that everything is black and white, we sometimes close off the way of grace and growth."

"I understand those who prefer a more rigorous pastoral care which leaves no room for confusion. But I sincerely believe that Jesus wants a Church attentive to the goodness which the Holy Spirit sows in the midst of human weakness," he added.

"Every person, regardless of sexual orientation, ought to be respected in his or her dignity and treated with consideration."

Pope Francis' statements appear in his paper "On Love in the Family," entitled "Amoris Laetitia" in Latin. It spans over 260 pages, and is based on two conferences of the world's Catholic bishops known as synods, which were called by the pope.

He is not saying that at all. Of course that would be the left’s interpretation. All the Pope said is that gay people should be treated with respect.

Then his timing is just awful or he has no clue what goes on the real world. Gays are not a persecuted minority in the West. By no stretch of the imagination is this true. The violence, disease, addiction they face are brought upon by their own behavior. Governments are in a unprecedented historical push to accept and promote homosexuality. 2000 year-old Catholic concepts of man/woman, rights of children, and marriage are being flushed away in the blink of an eye. And all he can do is put the onus on Catholics by implying we are the bigots.

But what if the homosexual opposes illegal immigration?
Maybe following the law is a greater sin than sodomy.

Or maybe under this liberation theologian, there are no sins anymore. Christ died for political positions.

And it all began by adopting a low view of the Bible in reaction to Protestantism (something no “conservative” Catholic will admit).

“I’m a proud cultural Catholic but not a very observant one, sadly”

I don’t think this Pope is, either.

Don't you love how the left is so conveniently selective in when they want to give political credence to the utterings of a Christian leader, and when they don't? They're usually trying to keep Christian leaders from even having a public opinion on anything touching the political (and for the left, that's everything).

This situation and this statement are very tricky spiritually - I hope unintentionally.

Everything spiritual is literally black and white (except in my “Red Letter” edition, where there is also red ink), but we cannot close off the way of grace and growth. The priest’s job is to find the right balance that welcomes people to God’s grace without supporting the confusion that people who reject God’s word try to generate. It’s hard. I know, having often spent hours with my wife discussing how to approach the latest parenting challenge. It’s also the priest’s job and (I hope) his calling.

The rigorous pastoral care that leaves no room for confusion must be combined with a Church attentive to the goodness which the Holy Spirit sows in the midst of human weakness. But the Church must also be attentive to the evil that Satan sows in that weakness.

Every person, regardless of sexual orientation, ought to be respected in his or her dignity and treated with consideration. An essential element of consideration and dignity is firm guidance. I love my children too much to allow them to go astray without guiding them back to the right path, so I raised them with a careful balance between firmness and love. The Church must give its members the same love.

And the liberal media is twisting wht he said.
He also said that same sex unions cannot be equated with marriage!

In other words, he endorses "same sex unions" but doesn't call it marriage. That's so much better!!! [/sarcasm]

The biggest heresy going right now in the Western world is Sodomism. And he refuses to stand up against it. The wolves are ravaging his flock and he admonishes the sheep.

Deposing this man would be an act of mercy. On him and the Church.

And oh yes, the Pope is exposed by `Arutz Sheva`! That's gotta hurt all those right wing Catholics who blame everything on "qabbalah" and the "Judaeo-Masonic conspiracy!"

Into the priesthood?

I thought they did, and that it had gotten them into deep financial doo-doo here in the US.

Because the anti-Christ will probably be a homosexual, our good friend the Pope is enabling Biblical prophecy. So it would seem.
