FBI not sure it can help Arkansas, after all

FBI tells Arkansas prosecutor it doesn't know enough to say if it really can unlock that iPhone and iPod.

The FBI is distancing itself from an Arkansas prosecutor's statement that said the agency will help unlock an iPhone and iPod belonging to two teenagers accused of murder.

The agency's office in Little Rock told the Associated Press Thursday that it doesn't have enough information about either Apple device to say if it can help the state's investigation.

"On March 28, 2016, FBI Little Rock received a request for investigative assistance in unlocking Apple devices," the agency said in a statement.

"The FBI frequently receives requests from our local partners to provide expert technical assistance. Such requests are considered on a case by case basis. At the time of the request, no information was provided regarding the device models or operating systems, so FBI Little Rock was not able to state if they would be able to provide assistance. The FBI does not currently have possession of the devices."

On Wednesday, Cody Heiland, a prosecuting attorney in Faulkner County, told the AP that the FBI had approved a request from his office and the Conway Police Department to crack the devices' defenses. Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

FBI not sure it can help Arkansas, after all — most likely because the iPod and iPhone involved are not iPhone 5Cs running an A6 processor similar to the San Bernardino Terrorist case iPhone which is probably all the hack can break into. — PING!

Pinging dayglored, Shadow Ace, and ThunderSleeps for their lists, if interested.

Well, that “mission failure” didn’t take long.

Maybe, maybe not. The 3rd party that hacked the iPhone for the FBI most likely used an as yet undisclosed vulnerability in iOS. We don't know what that vulnerability is or which iOS devices is exists in. Maybe it's limited a particular model of phone. Whatever it is, it's only a matter of time before whatever exploit they used to get in gets patched.

Apple itself said that the iPhone 5C was hackable. . . it was an older design.

You don’t think they used a password sniffer of sorts to get in? You think a hacker found a hole in the code?

Only an idiotic government would make it public knowledge that they could hack into anything.

We didn’t tell the Nazi’s that the enigma was broken.

Apple or anyone else shouldn’t know what we can and cannot break.

I do find it hard to believe on any level though that our government has more technology than Apple or any other tech company that does research.

But if they did, for God’s sake, shut up about it.

Our government, and the majority of our law enforcement, is a poor April Fools joke.

Not that that is new news...

It’s looking unlikely at this point
