Sen. John Cornyn: We don't need more walls between Texas and Mexico
KGBT Rio Grande Valley, TX ^ | March 30th 2016 | Analise Ortiz

Building more walls between the United States and Mexico will not boost border security, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn said Tuesday.

The Texas Republican toured the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge and visited Anzalduas Park during an all-day visit to the Rio Grande Valley.

Cornyn also met with Mission Mayor Norberto "Beto" Salinas, McAllen Mayor Jim Darling, Superintendent of Bridges Rigo Villarreal and Chief Patrol Agent Manuel Padilla, who heads the Rio Grande Valley Sector.

Cornyn brought Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-Louisiana, along for a firsthand look at trade and security issues.

Asked about the border wall -- a hot topic during the Republican presidential primary -- Cornyn said he didn't favor new fencing.

"It's more than just physical obstacles," Cornyn said. "It's people. It's the boots on the ground. And it's the technology.

"We had the opportunity to see the aerostats now that have been fairly recently deployed and see the great advantage that that gives to our Border Patrol and law enforcement authorities in terms of managing the border," Cornyn said.

During the visit, Cornyn said he wanted to emphasize that trade with Mexico is vital to the U.S. economy.

"When people talk about the border, so often I think they forget the advantages of our proximity to Mexico," Cornyn said. "Six million jobs in the U.S. depend on bi-national trade between the U.S. and Mexico."

No. There are not walls on the most of the Rio Grande. Go look. Few yards across river to Mexican staging areas.

I don’t like John Wayne Cornyn, but there are places where a border wall is impractical and not wanted. Also, they don’t build the wall right on the border, they usually build it on someones’ property, so eminent domain is also a big issue. Litigation with landowners could drag out for years.

No Cruz waiting with teddy bears or balloons in that photo.
But there are plenty of Mexican cartels eager to give us stuff: desperate, unemployed, unskilled, illiterate Mexican and central American peasants/`mules’/future inmates anxious to lay their eggs here, along with drugs, crime, guns, prostitution, cockfighting and other 3rd world diseases & kultur, etc.
But McCain, Cornyn and Co. are anxious to send help—boots on the ground, if possible—to the middle east to resume the job they’ve done by completely wrapping our foreign policy barb wire around the tractor axle.

This is a battle royale, with Trump against everyone.

As a Texan, I wrote to Sen Cornyn to plead with him to bring up a bill passed by the House, held up in the Senate to rescind the windfall elimination on state pensions. I retired with the Teacher Retirement (on support staff wages and not bloated teacher/administrator salaries). However, I worked almost 20 years before going to public education. I EARNED a social security benefit, but I only receive a little less than 2/3 of that because I am on a state pension. Not only did Cornyn NOT sympathize with my poor pittance situation, he chastised me as a citizen about how the nation just can’t afford these increases. He went on about the baby boomers ‘breaking the bank’ since there are so many. He can go straight to hell as far as I am concerned. Were it not for the contributions of the baby boomer generation since the early 60s to now, politicians may not have become so greedy trying to get their hands on that handsome treasure building in SS. He will NEVER receive a vote from me, and I plea with all DFW citizens to treat Cornyn the same.

We need a wall, a big wall - period. Senator Cornyn is obviously worried about the Hispanic vote and that shouldn’t come into it.

“...Senator Cornyn is obviously worried about the Hispanic vote and that shouldn’t come into it.”

My mother’s maiden name is Maldonado. My grandparents came to this country legally, learned the freaking language and were resolved to BECOME Americans. Most of those of Spanish descent who are here legally oppose illegal immigration — it hurts us just as much as every other US citizen.

But the GOP leadership apparently thinks that the future lies in appeasing the illegal alien lobby — and in the process, betraying the voting base, which is far larger.

In the previous election, Romney could have one with only a few more percent of the white voters who constitute a significant proportion of the GOP voting base. If they had gotten even a majority of the Latino vote, he still would have lost.

So this idea of abandoning the base and attempting to court favor with the Democrats’ typical voter is made of pure failure.

” I had always thought Texans were pretty good at judging people’s character....

John Cornyn’s & Shelia Jackson Lee’s continual re-election have caused me to rethink this....”

Don’t forget that San Antonio elected the vile, La Raza racist, Julian Castro, as mayor. San Antonio must be as leftist as Austin.

And there are rumors that Castro will be Hitlery’s VP Nominee. Scary.

Cornyn has drunk the Kool-Aid. His mind is gone, put him out to pasture, but, don’t let him breed.

“Six million jobs in the U.S. depend on bi-national trade between the U.S. and Mexico.”

Compare the number of unemployed American citizens to the number of non-citizens in this country illegally. A lot more jobs depend upon securing our borders and expelling the economic refugees — as well as the criminals, terrorists and parasites who accompany them.
