Just slightly more than a third of the 21 Republican senators up for re-election this year say that they'd unquestionably support Donald Trump if he becomes the party's presidential nominee
.
.
.
Another six GOP senators up for re-election have hedged on whether they'd stand behind Trump if he's the nominee, opting instead to observe the rest of the Republican primary season.
.
.
.
As for the remaining seven senators, they and their offices refused to answer the question, despite multiple attempts by NBC News.

How many senators back Cruz? One?
The PC culture of intimidation is strong right now, but when Donald Trump wins, and starts attacking Hillary and the Democrats, the pack will form up behind the Alpha-Male. ;-)
Perhaps it might not be wise to include Portman as part of any potential Senate Republican majority next year.
I’m not voting for squishy Portman, gonna leave his race blank.
Eight times the number that back Cruz ...
I think she loses anyhow in November to the Rat and this is all moot.
I have no challenger to Toomey ... which REALLY sucks
Toomey is toast.
“How many senators back Cruz? One?”
Funny how they left that out, isn’t it?
And only One backs Cruz. On a personal level the vast majority of Republican Senators hate Cruz as a human sort-of being.
This is a good thing.
Winnow the wheat from the chaff. I don’t think Portman will win reelection
They know that if Trump is cheated, they are down ticket toast.
They would be right because I wouldn’t vite for lyin Ted.
Funny how no mention is made of that in the report. 21 names listed. Not one states they support Cruz. But, I guess it doesn't fit the narrative being pumped to the public of "look how unpopular Trump is... why would you vote for him?"
I called sen burr office and told them I was more clear than hopeful that I would not and will not support him since he is only hopeful he can support trump
Oh, their opinions will change with the polls.
If Donald looks good, they’ll rally behind him, never fear.
I think caution is typical for a senator up for re-election, but if we have an untried candidate like Trump, I’ll cut these guys some slack to see how he runs and what he says. My guess is that his poll numbers will dramatically increase, and that the hesitant senators will get on board with him.
I think Portman is not a weak candidate. Both of our Ohio senators are extremely quiet, though. Sherrod Brown is so out of the news, it’s possible he’s been kidnapped by Martians. Portman is just as quiet. He’s my former congressman, so he’s very well liked around here, but he needs to ramp it up a bit for the rest of the state.
Portman will build up very large numbers in Southwest and SouthCentral Ohio. Kasich will get him support in central Ohio. His dem opponent will have to kill him with a massive effort in Cleveland and Toledo.
Portman is already trailing in the polls. His gay son stance, his trade policies, and above all, his duck and cover approach to dealing with Obama has NOT made him popular, even in the districts you cite. I think he will lose. I won’t be here to vote against him, though.
Well good for him! I won't have any trouble voting for him now.
It is different to support now (Cruz) or to support IF they get the nomination which is discussed in this story.
