SACRAMENTO (CBSLA.com/AP) California legislators and labor unions have reached a tentative agreement that will take the states minimum wage from $10 to $15 an hour, a state senator said, a move that would make for the largest statewide minimum in the nation by far.
This is not a done deal, Sen. Mark Leno, D-San Francisco said Saturday. Everyones been operating in good faith and we hope to get it through the Legislature.
Leno said if an agreement is finalized, it would go before the Legislature as part of his minimum-wage bill that stalled last year.
If the Legislature approves a minimum-wage package, it would avoid taking the issue to the ballot. One union-backed initiative has already qualified for the ballot, and a second, competing measure is also trying to qualify.

Unions don’t care, they still consider breaking Hostess/Dolly Madison/Drake’s a “win”. This of course raises all union rates pegged to rise with the minimum wage. $12/hour jobs become $17/hour, etc.
Fear for thier tips???? fear for your job! but then again they want to get laid off so they go on unemployment
Cheapskates! Why not make it $50? Then they will be out of work of higher paying jobs. More self esteem? Morons!
Good, this will destroy the illegal alien labor market. Lots of seniors will work for $15/hr.
Not zero, there’s unemployment and wellfare.
They have made it illegal to work at any job that pays less than $15 per hour. Good thing that the government provides welfare, food stamps, free Obamacare and free Obamaphones to all those people that will now be unemployed.
It may be a problem though when all of the people who pay taxes leave.
When a country de industrializes (on purpose and stupidly) service sector jobs become careers. I have been expecting his. Globalization ya know....
The Gov and St legislature already calculated and spent the increased tax revenues from the payroll taxes.
I read that the unions exempted unionized employers from the minimum wage, thereby opening the door for employers wanting their employees to unionize and unions getting more dues paying members.
Exactly. The off the radar is to get more % of the people dependent upon the government.
Are people willing to hire seniors?
this will push many out of EIC and out of college "grants" etc....
maybe it'll take away their food cards....
they were better off when people could tip them ....
Someone has finally come up with a way to make California unappealing to illegals! Once they have driven almost all the fast food and similar jobs out of the state by forcing them to be replaced with mechanicals the illegals will move to other states.
Not necessarily. I'd think the underground economy will greatly increase because of this.
It may be a problem though when all of the people who pay taxes leave
Kalifornia has been losing their richer retirees for several decades already.
The state population has increased, but the new additions are in the “gimme” class, and the outflow is in the "taxpayer" class.
The other 49 states need to prepare for a wave of California refugees.
I live in central va and small business forgo local help and import Mexicans. What a bunch of crap. Small businesses are their own worst enemy.
My state is stupid.
With 80% of new jobs being ‘burger flipper’ type jobs you enact laws that will cause many, if not most of those jobs to disappear.
My state is crazy stupid.
This will help Silicon Valley with their point-of-sale robot business.
