That was my take. The question is “who benefits from this?”. My take is that it’s the GOPe who derives the greatest benefit from it. Cruz and Trump beat each other up so badly that they both become radioactive. Makes it easier to strong-arm delegates to bring in someone fresh.

I also think that now that primaries are moving to the northeast, the ability for Cruz to deny Trump delegates is lessened while Kasich’s ability to deny Trump delegates is strengthened.

It could be the GOPe dropped this now to burn Cruz. In their mind Cruz has denied Trump probably the most delegates he can and forcing his to drop out would turn it into a two-way race with Kasich, where Kasich playes better in upcoming primaries.

Kasich, from what I remember reading on FR has very little money. If GOPe money men start leaving Cruz for Kasich, this could provide evidence that this is what they are planning.

Ted would like it to be Trump then Jeff Roe’s purchase from GQ wouldn’t look as bad as it does

Ted is being screwed from within

It certainly is possible he was waiting for this to drop, and had planned this response. He might be neither in on the revelation nor blackmailed...it may simply have been that he planned a response for when it did drop. I would say more that he did his own career in, though he could also have been blind-sided by his new establishment buddies. You lay down with wolves and all that.

I like your reasoning. But wait, doesn’t Hillary stand to gain and maybe much more than anybody?

Time for Cruz to withdraw for the good of the Party.

You know you Trumpsters have really gotten ahead of yourself. There is no evidence any of this is actually true and Cruz has denied it. Unless you got something more than random tweets and youtube conspiracy theories, Cruz is still the aggrieved party. At least 2 of those "anonymous" women named have denied the allegations to date (laughably enough, including Trump's own press spokesperson).

You can keep trying to call it the "Ted Cruz Cheating Scandal", but what the National Enquirer put out so far is essentially nothing. It is just a story claiming that other investigations (ie, not the Enquirers) have come up with this stuff.

You Trump people better hope this pans out. The glee with which the Trump mob has run with rumor, trashy tweets, and assorted garbage aimed at Ted Cruz is appalling. It won't be forgotten. If it turns out Cruz did this he will be out of the race within days and much will be forgiven simply because it was all true. But if this all turns out to be nothing but tabloid trash gleefully embraced by Trump followers, you can pretty much count on another chunk of people to utterly detest Trump and his flock. Trump and his supporters have already managed to alienate just about everyone imaginable, losing yet another chunk of conservatives by being utterly classless is quite a foolish thing to do.

I hope you understood I mean this in the political sense.

When with other people it’s fine to discuss being a Christian, but it has to be done in a non pushy manner.

As a politician though, you mention your faith once, and then you’re on the record. Mentioning it over and over and playing it up that you’ll get the Christian vote, is a big mistake IMO.

When Cruz lost the South, he had set himself up. It would have been bad if it lost it anyway, but after professing his faith and then thinking it was all sewn up, big mistake IMO.

I can’t help but think back to Spring 2015 , and the first couple of interviews I heard from Cruz. At the time, Trump had not taken the famous escalator ride, and I liked Walker, Santorum, or Jindal. There was something about Cruz that was a little off. I couldn’t put my finger on it but it was there. I brushed it aside until the beginning of the year. Then it came back, impression enhanced by controversy. Walker and Jindal gone, and Santorum on life support. I changed to Trump in August, and was looking at things differently. In the end, the only reason to vote Cruz in November is what he’d be up against. And if that is the choice, God help us.

Yes, Faith is a private matter in my book. But I don’t proselytize personally. My relationship with The Lord is my business.

That is part of my issue not only with Cruz, but also with many of his followers. Telling me that I am not a “good Christian” because I don’t vote for Cruz tells me it isn’t about Faith, but about winning. And shaming. Maybe I’m too much of a New Testament guy instead of Old Testament.

So all thru life we have all met people who tell us what “good Christians” they are. In my experience, those people are the furthest from what I have believed in all my life. Try to live in His light, and never, ever try to be Judge. Only He is that.

Ted tried to sell his piety as a way to earn a position of power. To me that goes against what I have learned.

I go out of my way to avoid discussions of Faith in here. It always devolves into cherry picking of Scripture...

Oh. I’m sorry. This whole sordid mess is getting hard to follow. Things are moving quick. Having sailed the seas I never needed Dramamine, but this is crazy. If it all proves true I feel sorry for his kids. I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy. Sad.

Cruz is Jerry Fallwell in drag...

I can't make up my mind about Ted Cruz. I'm trying to decide whether to put him in the same category as David Barton, or Jimmy Swaggart. But either way, I suppose it doesn't matter.

[[Oh. I’m sorry. This whole sordid mess is getting hard to follow.]]

It’s not hard to follow- a rumor has been released by a notorious scandal rag, and those who hate Ted Cruz have gleefully jumped all over the rumor as though it’s gospel truth, before any facts are known, as they anxiously look forward to Ted’s life being ruined along with his familie’s lives-

Pretty straight forward-

Yep. I think that is exactly what is going on.

The GOP is playing the remaining pieces on the board against each other in order to cause a draw, at which point they can pull whatever victor they choose out of their rear end.

That’s the endgame they want.
