Sen. Ted Cruz 97% says “Donald Trump may be a rat but I have no desire to copulate with him.”

Stone, a former adviser to Trump, has been labeled by some in the media as a “rat*ucker” due to using dirty political tricks when he worked in the Nixon administration.

Yep - sometimes the proper English doesn’t do the phrase justice.
To be clearer, he probably meant the following:
“The advisor is known as a rat f***er. Well, Trump may be a Rat, but I’m not going to F with him.
Oh - I’m just sick and tired of all of this nonsense - copulate it!

That is hilarious. It’s like Cruz has a fill in the blank statement rehearsed with the pregnant pauses and the “let me be clear” stuff.
You clearly have no idea what this even means.
In the news business, the reporter sends in the story, and it gets edited, and a headline writer puts on a headline. Reporters often disagree with the headline. It makes for many arguments in the newsroom.
Apparently this guy overruled the headline guy and it went to print that way.
Of course any editor is going to be ticked at someone who does this, but there's nothing Illegal or even unethical about it. It's insubordinate at worst - the equivalent of a kid breaking curfew.
Anyone who tries to make hay out of this demonstrates their cluelessness about journalism.

First, the "but" should be an "and". Not wanting to copulate with him does not modify Cruz believing Trump is a rat.
Second, Cruz may need to try to, in the figurative sense, "copulate" with Trump. If a contested/brokered convention occurs, Cruz is not getting the nomination; the GOPe hates him as much as they hate Trump.
Wonder if he devised that insanity with the help of Beck. Woooo.

When you read that statement carefully, the way it is worded, it does sound like Cruz is saying that, for most rats, he (Cruz) does have that desire, but even though Donald is a rat, he (Cruz) still doesn't want to copulate with him.
