many years ago President Reagan flew into an Air Force base near where I live. At that time there were a bunch of ill mannered and freakish looking communists who showed up everywhere Reagan went who were “protesting” our involvement in Central America. I didn’t know anything about it ahead of time, but when I found out I quickly made a huge sign that said “Tacoma Loves You Mr. President” and called up several of my friends to help me hold it up.

When we got out to the Air Force Base we went to the gate where all the protestors were and set up our sign. We were outnumbered by over a hundred to one, but other than a few obscenities and dirty looks none of them bothered us. President Reagan wisely chose to leave the base from another gate. The “protestors” and us then all proceeded to Federal Way at the Weyerhaeuser corporate headquarters where Reagan was going to a meeting.

We set our sign up outside of Weyerhaeuser and the hundreds of “protestors” all avoided us once again and a group of decent looking folks joined us. Before Reagan left the meeting, we were interviewed by the news media. The next morning our group and the people who gathered with us along with the giant sign I made was on the front page of the Seattle Times and with three paragraphs of quotes the hundreds of protestors were in the back of the A section with a tiny picture and no coherent non-profanity laced quotes.

Once again Reagan’s motorcade wisely left the facility from a different location from where we were gathered. They had no intention of driving through a crowd of motley looking communists. But a week later I received a package from the Whitehouse with a letter on fancy stationary with Reagan’s signature thanking us for our support at the event.

One time Reagan was interrupted by some punks chanting “Heil Hitler!”. Reagan looked up and said, “I take pride in my generation. Without my generation you kids would be saying, ‘Heil Hitler’ for real.” I could hardly wait for the nightly news to hear what he had said that day

Unlike you who met Sarah Palin personally and probably a bunch of others... I never actually even saw President Reagan in real life. But my friends and I did get a letter that indicated that he appreciated our efforts and that meant a lot to all of us. They were mostly all military guys, one of them is serving still.

Well, just don’t act all surprised if Trump wins this election. Politicians talk, doers do, leaders lead.

Reagan was (usually) more soft spoken than Trump, but no wimp when taking on leftist thugs.

The rebellion is on.

Trump has 10 of these per speech. Reagan might have had to punch someone.

The 80’s weren’t necessarily fun but they were exciting.
One of the greatest days in American history, and one of my best days, was the day President Reagan walked out of the Reykjavik Summit with Gorbachev in Iceland.

I blame Reagan for the Disco era

Nope. You're off by four years. Jimmah Carter years. Disco at its peak in 1977 ("Saturday Night Fever" movie). Back then I was wearing bell-bottomed blue with white striped pants, and flared-collar flowery shirts. My wife wore suede hot-pants and halter tops. The disco clubs were crowded as heck, and did look like the movie. When Reagan got into the White House, disco was dying down and gals dressed more conservatively (darn).

Disco died in 1979, thanks to this...

I was born in 1986, so all I remember of the 80s was trying to get potty trained.

But one thing I do know thanks to YouTube is that the 80s was home to some of the strangest and yet the most awesome music!

Politicians talk, doers do, leaders lead.

And some leaders lead to very bad places.

thanks for posting this. it quite puts things in perspective: sounds like Reagan had hundreds of the number of hecklers as Trump. Probably Trump will reach Reaganesque heckling before the general election is over, though.

Look, I’m getting sick of this crap. Trump is not inciting violence. The disruptors are leftist thugs who are trespassing and trying to start fights. All they gotta do to avoid it is stay out! They deserve whatever comes to them when they trespass and or commit other crimes. Reagan was never shy about tossing the bastards out on their keisters. Never knew you to be such a wimp. Defend your turf or lose it.
