The Hollow Man (Rush Limbaugh, Cruz & Conservatism)
Hotgas.net ^ | March 13, 2016 | Joseph K

For 26 years, Rush Limbaugh has insisted that conservative values, clearly and passionately articulated, will win every time. By conservative values Rush meant: God, country, family, community, liberty, individualism, personal responsibility, limited government, and free markets. Reagan was the model, and the promise: it had happened once, and could happen again.

Easier said than done.

The Trumpkin delusion on FR is truly hilarious. Trump will never be President.

The article conveniently leaves out the first part of Cruz’s statement, when he, you know, blamed the protesters.

He simply cited the part of Teds response that you guys always conveniently leave out.

From the article: “Had Cruz realized that conservatism is not a clearly articulated set of principles that must be imposed on a recalcitrant mass, but is instead the systematized expression of the yearning of individuals and peoples, as flawed and imperfect as they are, he might have been born aloft by the wave that is now carrying Donald Trump to the White House. Instead, blinded by ideology and self-regard, Cruz missed the wave, and is being left behind.”

I think that Trump is drawing on the anger, resentment and the need for revenge by so many. And that is fine, but is a danger if the ideology of conservatism is tossed out. Then it becomes mob rule. I found a fancy term for that -

“Ochlocracy”.

Some of it sure sounds like a Trump rally, and what is happening at Free Republic:

Following are excerpts from:

http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-ochlocracy.htm

Classical theories of ochlocracy suggest that the individual minds of people form a united way of thinking, but that the crowd forms the people instead of the people forming the crowds. Each member of the group is fueled by the others, and they feed off the emotions of others, increasing their own. The result is a mob that acts completely as one with growing enthusiasm, and each individual loses touch with their original thoughts and intentions….

Protests and rallies are modern day examples of ochlocracy. In these instances, groups of people unite to either show support or show objection. When the emotional levels of these crowds gets out of hand, mob mentality becomes evident, particularly when uprisings and rioting occurs.

Peer pressure [Free Republic?] can also be categorized as a form of ochlocracy. In the same manner as protests and rallies, groups of people in the same age group, social class, or religion can group together for a specific purpose. Mob rule in some form can be seen just as much today as it was centuries ago.

Do you really think anyone could be a Reagan in 2016? I mean, so you picture it as actually possible?

PRAY for his safey and PRAY for his Security Team.

Our good Lord assigns His toughest battles to His mightiest Warriors.

Onward Christian Soldiers and God's Chosen Childen.

VOTE TRUMP!

Brilliantly illustrates the rise and fall of Ted Cruz.

Yes, it does. The entire essay is excellent.

Loved this......

A film critic once wrote that Alfred Hitchcock’s great film “North by Northwest”, was not about what happens to Cary Grant, but about what happens to Cary Grant’s suit. Told by a fan that he wished he were Cary Grant, Grant responded “So do I.” Grant was being overly dramatic. In his case, the clothes did make the man; the Cockney Archie Leach finally was Cary Grant.

Not so for Rafael Edward Cruz. It did not have to end this badly. Had Cruz realized that conservatism is not a clearly articulated set of principles that must be imposed on a recalcitrant mass, but is instead the systematized expression of the yearning of individuals and peoples, as flawed and imperfect as they are, he might have been born aloft by the wave that is now carrying Donald Trump to the White House. Instead, blinded by ideology and self-regard, Cruz missed the wave, and is being left behind.

I just read the article, and it never said anything like what you just said.

He never said that conservatism doesn't matter, principle doesn't matter, or that Reagan doesn't matter.

Either you're not reading, or you're still pissed off that a certain candidate just blew his chances sky high by not blaming the totalitarian left for its violent extremism.

Just let it go, the article is actually pretty good if you try to understand what it said. Here's a money quote for you:

Rush was correct — conservatism, properly articulated, will win every time. But conservatism is more than a set of bullet points. It is ultimately a form of trust, in people, and that, if left alone, they can manage to get things right. Trump may not have all of the bullet points in line, but the trust is there. Trust is the ultimate gift — if a candidate shows that he trusts the people, the people will trust him in return.

If Trump doesn’t win both Fl and Oh, and it goes to the convention... they will do all they can to remove him. I hope enough voters won’t let that happen. I hope you are right and Trump is our next President. This weekend and an organized take down.. I don’t know how many voters are not sheep and can be led in Cruz’s direction. I’d like an honest poll.. not sure there can be one.

Pro Life. Pro Liberty. Pro Representative Democracy. Pro the Country created by the Founding Generation of The United States of America. Pro the rule of law, and not the rule of men.

I will apologize for that to no one.

The 100%ers would never allow it.

Nor would the Establishment that has honed their knives since 1980 to keep someone like Reagan out.

They are now only using Cruz to stop Trump so they can once again deny the voters preference at the convention. It’s not like they ever intended on letting Cruz win the nomination

If that is what you took for the article, then you were not reading it with the mindset of a true American Constitutional conservative.
