Cruz to Unveil Senate Endorsements This Week
National Review ^ | March 7, 2016 | Elaina Plott

Ted Cruz’s colleagues may loathe him, but they seem to have found somebody else they dislike more. With the prospect of Donald Trump’s nomination looming over the GOP, Cruz is set to unveil endorsements from more than four senators this week, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Until now, Cruz had failed to earn the endorsement of even a single Senate colleague, a fact Trump and other presidential rivals have been quick to use against the Texas freshman. But as many senators see Marco Rubio’s prospects dimming, some are beginning to make peace with Cruz, convinced that he’s the only candidate who can stop Trump. If Rubio can’t clinch his home state of Florida on March 15, yet more may come forward to back the devil they know.

The forthcoming endorsements are a sign that the members of the upper chamber are beginning to abandon their personal grievances in order to preserve the Republican party of old.

You can’t run as an outsider if you are inside and your friends line up to support you.
He should have said, nah.

Yeup.

Trump is really good at placing people in lose-lose situations, as much as I am not a supporter.

I hope Ted can play this well. Perhaps the Senators he got are good ones (oxymoron and all on that, I know)

Lee, Cotton and Paul would be good ones to get without looking like Establishment Sellout.

Lol. They are desperate. They hate Cruz but hate trump more. This is hilarious considering Cruz needed this in the south not when we are moving to the northeast. Cruz’s campaign is horrible. Do they think these endorsements will give him Ohio and Florida? No way. Another thing. Endorsements this year mean very little ask bush and Rubio. Cruz has nothing to lose though so bring out those Americans hate...the congress and the 9 percent approval rate. Good luck!

Worst of both worlds for Cruz there.

He keeps the label that he’s unlikable and can’t get people to work together because of how grudging the support is.

And now he’s got the establishment label hung on him too.

Even if he pulls this off, he’s turned off enough of the Trumpers, especially with the second part, that he’s never going to make it.

I can’t quite visualize how this throwing someone under the bus would work.

The conventions starts with say, 1100 Trump delegates and 800 Cruz delegates. That’s 1900 of less than 2500 delegates. Where does the Establishment get 1237 votes to change the rules to screw Trump and Cruz?

They would need 665 Trump or Cruz delegates in addition to the 572 ‘miscellaneous’ delegates.

35% of Trump and Cruz delegates will be Establishment plants while the campaigns are aware and watching? Really?

lol ...

Can you imagine an announcer at a ballgame ...

"And up to bat now ... Norm Knuckersol ... currently batting 0.040 ... This is a huge at bat for him and shows just how his major league career has taken off this year. Yeah, momentum is really on his side Joe."

I hope one of them is Graham. Oh, how it’ll pain him to endorse Cruz. I’ll watch that video all day on an endless loop.

Yeah...

I hope that it unifies FR some more too.

I want to believe that both of the top two choices aren’t going to dance to the GOP tune of ‘I’m a loser, baby.’

Oh, I wish I knew what you were talking about. You are probably right, I just figured that the GOPe will use Cruz to decrease Trump's delegate get, he won't have many either, and when they get to the convention, after the first vote they dispense with Cruz and Trump and then they'll bring out romney and ryan. I don't have the math for that, just a real bad feeling.

If the gop-e really wanted to help Cruz they should have come to this pained decision prior to last Tuesday. This is a headfake.

Congrats all Cruz supporters! Your guy is now the official GOPe candidate. All it took was a phone call to Lindsey Graham.

Serious question - if Cruz gets the White House, what do you think he’ll owe all his big money donors and the Establishment for their backing? You think Cruz will be able to take on the very Washington cartel he hopped into bed with?

I guess Cruz has finally twisted Mike Lee’s arm hard enough to get an endorsement.

There is a real danger that the GOP-E will launch some suicide mission even bigger than getting McCain and Romney to throw the elections then.

The convention talk dates to when they thought the delegates would be much more split between multiple candidates. The MSM is just too stupid to realize what they’re looking at when they see delegate breakdowns.

Those are two great and reliable conservatives. I hope you’re right. Unfortunately, they’ll be branded as GOPe lackeys by the usual suspects here.
