The Washington Post's Ridiculously Nasty Nancy Reagan Obit is a New Low
Front Page Mag ^ | March 6, 2016 | Daniel Greenfield

Posted on 03/07/2016 5:54:49 AM PST by MarvinStinson

There's a point at which any decent person puts aside partisan rhetoric.

That point would be death. Especially the death of a First Lady.

Even if you didn't like Reagan, taking shots at Nancy Reagan in 2016, after her death, is really despicable.

Post writer Lois Romano decided to write a ridiculously nasty smear of Ronald Reagan and his wife as the obit. About half the content seems to be about how much money Nancy Reagan spent on things. By paragraph 3, Lois Romano starts attacking Nancy Reagan.

"As first lady from 1981 to 1989, Mrs. Reagan had a knack for inviting controversy — from her spending habits to her request that the White House abide by an astrologer when planning the president’s schedule."

That's less than 100 words in and Lois Romano is already doing the fully Kitty Kelley workup. Then she pivots to smears of Ronald Reagan and attacks on contemporary Republicans. Because that is how the left operates now.

"Always working behind the scenes, she was involved in the hiring, and firing, of senior staff at pivotal junctures. She insisted, over the objections of some senior advisers, that her husband publicly apologize for the government’s secret arms sales to Iran, a scandal that rocked his presidency. It proved to be the right call. She also bucked the administration’s right-leaning ideologues in pushing for improved relations with the Soviet Union, conspiring with the secretary of state to do it.

"His illness prompted Mrs. Reagan to openly challenge the George W. Bush administration and other conservatives who sought to limit embryonic stem cell research, which scientists believe could hold the cure for Alzheimer’s..."

This pivots to praise for Obama. Because again, propaganda trumps any concept of basic decency.

Then Lois Romano pivots back to attacking Nancy Reagan.

"Mrs. Reagan’s most-prominent initiative as first lady was the “Just Say No” drug-awareness campaign, aimed at preventing and reducing recreational drug use among young people. But time after time, her efforts at developing a substantive role for herself were overshadowed by parallel revelations about her pricey clothes and rich friends and about accusations that she meddled in her husband’s official business."

Remember this is an obituary for a First Lady who just died. Not an editorial. Not a biography. And this is what the left thinks is appropriate. It's what the Washington Post thinks is appropriate. Which means it's what Jeff Bezos of Amazon must think is appropriate. So Lois Romano continues to attack Nancy Reagan as a bad feminist. More whining about her clothes.

"she swept into town with a larger-than-life cadre of wealthy California friends and celebrities who wore sable coats, knotted traffic with their shiny white limousines and threw lavish parties the likes of which were unprecedented at inaugural festivities"

As opposed to the modest and humble Obamas. And Michelle Obama who is known to avoid lavish dresses and celebrity appearances. But that's okay. She's on the left.

Jeff Bezos should be publically called out and asked to demounce this “journ-o-list.”

Ah, but the hundreds of millions spent BY Obola and Mrs Obola on “day trips” and “date nights” flying his two 747’s to New York, Chicago, and various vacation spots across Europe and Africa are .... ignored.

No, Michelle Obola is “beautiful” and “wonderous” for giving our school kids meals so terrible food waste is tripled.

All liberals have is their hate. They also project it onto other people who don’t agree with them.

Oh no. No one can claim that the First Mooch isn't far more guilty with her $1000 gardening sneakers, her thousand dollar boob-belt dresses, her multi-million dollar vacations and date nights, and that pig slop she's forced on our children as something called "school lunch". Nope, she hasn't meddled on damn bit in to Obama's bidness.....

I truly look forward to future opportunities of tit-for-tat where I can take a healthy piss on a few legacies of my own choosing.

This is an absolute disgrace. Where was the Post’s mention of Teddy Kennedy’s drowning of a girl, or JFK’s outrageous treatment of his wife by his many affairs? When Bill Clinton goes to his eternal destination, will they dwell on his being a sexual predator? No, this stinking rag of Leftists only works to defame the memory of Republicans and conservatives. It is a shame that it is still in business in our nation’s capital.

Funny, but I don’t ever recall Nancy being “controversial.”

I always thought she set a beautiful standard for decorum while Reagan was in office.

Have you seen her upper arms? So well-toned, both biceps and triceps!
She MUST BE the most wonderous First Lady...like...EVER!

“...accusations that she meddled in her husband’s official business.”
How quickly and conveniently Ms. Romano forgets the Clinton
“co-presidency”. BTW, if WORST case scenario comes to pass do you think Hillary will be as quick to share the power of the Oval Office with her husband?

Now, now. After the outrage reaches a suitable level I'm sure there will be a shame-faced and truly contrite apology coming.

Anybody who expects a level playing field against these limousine barbarians is asking for a knife the back, including on the day of your death. Which is why it’s no help to the cause to be slashing at the good guys on our team, even if we are ardent supporters of others on the team. The enemy is them, not us.

Surprised they didn’t call in Bitch Extraordinaire Maureen Dowd to chew on her bones. That’s how she started her career at the WP.

Funny, but I don’t ever recall Nancy being “controversial.”

She took a lot of heat during Reagan's years in office. She withstood the negative press with great strength and dignity.
