How Donald Trump broke Fox News' debate rules

Donald Trump consulted with his campaign manager during the first commercial break at Thursday night's Republican debate, violating ground rules from Fox News stating that candidates would not be allowed to have contact with their campaigns, rival campaign sources told CNNMoney.

While that exchange was the clearest violation of debate rules to date, the sources said, it followed a pattern: At multiple debates, Trump has consulted with his campaign manager Corey Lewandowski backstage even though it was expressly forbidden by the networks.

Thursday night's debate in Detroit marked a new extreme, however, as Lewandowski went directly onto the stage to meet with Trump during the commercial break. As in previous debates, Fox News had explicitly informed the campaigns that candidates were not allowed to communicate with their campaign staff during commercial breaks, the sources said.

When Lewandowski was asked by Fox News staff to leave the stage, he refused to do so, according to a source at Fox News.

Lewandowski and Trump campaign spokesperson Hope Hicks did not respond to requests for comment.

>>>It’s also the reason Donald likes to do so many phone interviews. His aides and handlers are with him while he’s on the phone to tell him what to say<<<

Do you have a source for that statement?

Never heard it before.

Everyone knows he needs help with the hard questions.

Everyone knows Cruz needs help with the hard primary states, like Texas.

It would have a real boost to Ted's morale to get 44% in his own state.

Alas. :(

secondary tagline:

One wonders why Romney wouldn’t expend the energy on trying to beat Hillary.

I've become convinced from watching several debates, that Trump doesn't "think well on his feet". A prime example of that was his rambling about the "lines around the states" when asked about his rep0alcement for Obamacare. Even when asked several minutes later what else would be in his plan, he simply said "that's all you need".

He thus requires input from clear thinkers in order to form coherent ideas. To his credit, he is quite susceptible to ideas from others, but that also then gives him the reputation of a flip-flopper.

He is nothing without his puppet master telling him what his positions are that day.

I think that was a rude thing to post about Ted Cruz.

He's a little stiff, but he's not a puppet. :)

Seems like common sense to conclude that the advisers are near for phone interviews.

That’s like spinning the turret and strafing your own Troop’s because the enemy is going to kill them anyway.

C’mon!

It’s pretty clear Trump can’t think on his feet and doesn’t even know what his positions are on many issues.

Trump handled Fox’s pole-dancing Javert very well.

He DID forget to bring some ones to slip into sMegma Shilly's g-string, though... :)

It was NOT a debate. It was the typical drive-by ambush setups and IEDs. “We don’t need no stinkin’ rulz”

kvan - I couldn't tell that wasn't your quote. The post was meant for BigBobber.

I agree with your statement:

kvanbrunt2 wrote: i don’t know that but he can speak for an hour extemporaneously and explain detailed issues like college tuition increases, tax policy and issues with obamacare. and i’ve never seen him in interviews consulting anyone. 5 people attacking one person would be hard for anyone to actually defend against.

Indeed. :)

Rules are for the little people, don’t you know. The elites make them to keep the rabble in their place.

OK, Eddie, you’re right. All his opponents should just lay down and lick themselves and surrender to Donald.

"Obvious to all was that Trump was losing his cool. "

If he wasn't losing his cool, he wouldn't be human.

There’s a Cruz `rally thread’ downstream where the caped Prince of Darkness’s faithful are really squealing over `Trumpsters’ visiting them with their negative waves and outrage at the invasion of their safe space.

Of course it’s not a problem for them to come here and everywhere else to move their bowels and bitch about that big bully Trump.
That’s OK.
Trump demonstrated again last night that he can handle two chihuahuas nipping at his ankles, a stripper trying to lap dance him while reaching for his pockets and moderators all asking piercing relevant and material questions, such as:
“Did a chik?
“Dad a chak?
“Dum a chum?”
All while raising their exoskeleton pincers in the air, the Fox `Fair and Accurate! crustacean honor salute to lame Murdoch of the Underworld, Priebus of the wine dark Sea and the GOP-e Olympians, nervously fingering their rosaries.

What debate? Fox News never even attempted to put on a debate. Fox News staged an “intervention” to try to promote ANYONE but Donald Trump with hostile “moderators “ helping the other 3 candidates to attack him.

Good for Donald not to go along with their dishonest set up.

Yeah, and there were ONLY 12 other candidates on the ballot.
