Trump and his staff have told some individuals -- including potential donors -- that as soon as the billionaire businessman secures the nomination, he will pivot and begin fundraising for a general election fight, the source said.
In the event that he wins, Trump will have to quickly scale up his campaign -- particularly if he's competing nationwide against Hillary Clinton's behemoth political organization. In private conversations, Trump and his aides have acknowledged that the Republican Party will need to be well-funded for the general election, and that Trump will work with the party to ensure that's the case.

Nothing new. He’s already admitted to it.
He only claims he will be self funding campaign and will take RNC money once he secures the nomination.
I won’t be surprised if he negotiates a deal with the RNC. You keep your money to support Republican Senators and Congressmen, Governors, and downticket races. I’ll raise my own money for the POTUS race, and you will henceforth support me 100% and stop all this nonsense about Romney, brokered conventions, etc. Win-win.
I don’t like keeping the GOP on life support any better than anyone else, but he needs them to stop fighting him and they need a candidate that can win and to protect the Congressional majorities - that spells n-e-g-o-t-i-a-t-e.
I will NOT fund the GOP.
I will fund Trump.
Ditto!
Good for Trump. He works harder than anyone. It’s not like he is trying to hide anything like the others in the race.
So, to follow Trump's logic, he's basically saying, "Fellas, I can't be bought....now. Sale starts in a few weeks/months."
Once the RNC GOPe smell money, all of the sudden they will support Trump, funny how that works.
Oh! What’s going to happen when he takes money from Goldman Sachs, and trial lawyers...banks...Planned parenthood...????
Eh?
I bet if he won the nomination and asked for individual contributions at his website, he’d set a new record for donations under the individual limits.
And he has said before if he wins the nomination, the RNC should provide financial support.
From June to November - a relentless, never ending media, drip drop Trump dump.
And that is why Hillary will win if Trump is the nominee.
Well, Ted’s wife may have a say in what is given to Trump...
everything's negotiable doncha know.
That doesn't mean it's for his campaign.
It sounds like House and Senate races to me.

Right... because they would give any other GOP candidate a pass come the general... I’ll have what your smoking
exactly. Issue was always who has the character, principles to withstand being bought because premise of donor free or once in office no temptation is total BS.
DT has 0 character. Has bought pols all his career. Changes positions as wind blows. Hired illegals, Visa workers. He’s always been that way.
Cruz has always been the reverse. Untouchable, stalwart, courageous.
Trump doesn’t have the cash to fund his campaign and he isn’t going to liquidate.
So far he has not spent his own money, he has borrowed money from himself. The only reason to do that is if you plan on raising money and then repaying yourself. Thus, not self-funded.
Trump 2.0’s, “Not taking money from big donors” is soon going to evolve into Trump 3.0’s, “I’m rich, so there money is meaningless to me.”
He has admitted that he will solicit donations to fund his campaign. He did not say he will solicit funds for the RNC. Just admit it, he is just like everyone he says he is better than. That makes him a hypocrite, but that is not news.
Vote for Trump in the primary because he is not beholden to anyone - because taking campaign donations is evil.
When he wins, he will the become beholden to those making campaign donations for the general - because taking campaign donations will no longer be evil.
article makes it clear that it is for DT’s race
